Position Summary
Salem College, a member of NCAA Division III and the USA South Athletic Conference, seeks a dynamic and highly motivated individual to serve as the Director of Sports Information, Communication, and Marketing. This position will oversee all aspects of athletic communications, sports information, and marketing strategies to promote the Athletics Department, enhance the visibility of our student-athletes, and support the overall mission of Salem College.
Sports Information
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as the primary media contact for all athletic programs. Manage and maintain the Athletics Department website and all team pages with accurate and updated content, including game schedules, results, team rosters, student-athlete bios, news articles and more. Create and distribute game recaps, press releases, and feature stories to promote Salem College Athletics. Maintain statistical records for all NCAA-sponsored sports, ensuring timely reporting to the NCAA, conference offices, and opponents. Coordinate live-streaming and video production efforts for home athletic contests. Serve as official scorer and/or designate personnel for home athletic events.
Communication And Media Relations
Develop and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets to enhance coverage of Salem Athletics. Manage the dissemination of information via email newsletters, media alerts, and social media platforms (Instagram, X, Facebook, YouTube, etc.). Oversee content creation, graphic design, and video production for social media, including game highlights, promotional materials, and special features.
Marketing And Branding
Create and implement marketing campaigns to increase game attendance, student engagement, and campus and community involvement. Develop branded content consistent with Salem College’s mission and the Athletics Department’s vision. Design promotional materials to support athletic events and initiatives, including posters, flyers, digital graphics, and video content. Collaborate with the College’s Office of Communications and Marketing to ensure brand alignment across all platforms.
Administration And Leadership
Manage the athletic communications and marketing budget responsibly. Serve as a member of the Athletics Department leadership team, contributing to overall department planning and decision-making. Attend all home games and travel as needed for postseason events. Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, sports management, marketing, or a related field. 1–3 years of experience in athletic communications, sports information, marketing, or a related role, preferably at the collegiate level. Strong knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations. Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with statistical software (such as NCAA Live Stats, StatCrew, or PrestoStats). Familiarity with website management (e.g., Sidearm Sports, PrestoSports) and social media management. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed. Experience in graphic design (Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro) and/or video production strongly preferred. Knowledge of web streaming, live production equipment, and software. Experience with digital marketing, content strategy, and branding initiatives. Photography and video editing skills.
Work Environment
Office setting with frequent standing, walking, and event setup at athletic venues. Evening and weekend hours are standard during athletic seasons. Some travel is required for athletic competitions and professional development.
Physical Functions
While performing the responsibilities of the
Director of Sports Information, Communication, and Marketing,
the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
