Job Description
CD PROJEKT RED is looking for a Lead Technical Animator to join our studio in Boston and work on Project Orion, the follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077. You will bring your expertise, leadership skills, attention to detail, and passion for creating animation pipelines and systems for characters, vehicles, and weapons to our growing team.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a high-performing Technical Art team comprising Rigging TDs and Technical Animators.
- Leverage your skills in digital content creation tools and real-time engines to deliver high-quality workflows, pipelines, and animation solutions for characters, vehicles, and weapons.
- Manage your team, support their growth, and handle performance management, hiring, and promotions.
- Collaborate with Directors and Production to estimate and plan work.
- Work closely with designers, artists, and developers to understand their needs and ensure your team delivers on expectations.
- Coordinate cross-discipline teams from concept to completion.
- Establish and maintain best practices, providing guidance to support artistic and technical objectives.
- Mentor the technical art team, fostering an environment of creativity, trust, and excellence.
- Prototype, research, and extend rigging and animation systems.
- Develop and maintain pipelines for asset creation focusing on characters, weapons, and vehicles.
- Solve complex technical challenges, ensuring workflows are efficient and scalable.
- Participate in performance evaluation and optimization for seamless gameplay experiences.
- Foster collaboration across departments to ensure effective contribution of content and animation.
Qualifications
- Minimum 7+ years in the video game industry, including at least one shipped AAA title.
- Experience leading a technical art team.
- Expertise in Unreal Engine 5 Rigging and Animation Systems.
- Knowledge of animation pipelines, scripting tools for Maya, MotionBuilder, or similar applications.
- Proven experience building character, vehicle, and weapon workflows and pipelines.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Creative and strategic thinking to overcome technical challenges and innovate.
- Ownership mindset, goal-setting, knowledge sharing, and initiative driving.

- Strong C++, C#, or Python scripting and tool development experience.
- Experience in animation performance and memory optimization.
