The Design Manager will lead the design process for 3-4 critical applications, bridging the gap between Product Owners and UX/UI Designers to deliver high-quality, user-centered interfaces. This role requires close collaboration with Product Owners to gather and refine requirements, ensuring designers have clear direction to create intuitive and effective UI designs. The Design Manager will oversee project timelines, drive adherence to design processes, and foster a collaborative, innovative team environment. As a motivated self-starter, the Design Manager will ensure projects are completed on time, maintain clear documentation, and uphold Ascendum’s commitment to operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

Essential Job Functions

• Collaborate with Product Owners to gather, clarify, and document detailed requirements for 3-4 applications, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs.
• Work closely with UX/UI Designers to translate requirements into actionable design tasks, providing guidance and feedback to ensure high-quality, user-centered UI deliverables.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design briefs, requirement specifications, and progress reports, to ensure traceability and stakeholder alignment.
• Create and manage project timelines, ensuring design deliverables are completed by due dates while maintaining quality standards.
• Lead design team meetings, fostering collaboration, innovation, and adherence to established design processes and best practices.
• Act as a liaison between Product Owners, Designers, and other stakeholders to ensure clear communication and alignment throughout the design lifecycle.
• Monitor and report on design progress, identifying risks or bottlenecks and implementing solutions to keep projects on track.
• Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within the design team.
• Stay updated on industry trends and emerging design technologies, recommending tools or approaches to enhance Ascendum’s design capabilities.
• Participate in cross-functional meetings to align design efforts with broader product and development strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Project Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience (5+ years in design/project management).
• 3+ years of experience in design management, UX/UI design, or project management, preferably in transportation or technology environments.
• Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams, including Product Owners and Designers, to deliver user-centered solutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience creating clear, detailed documentation (e.g., design briefs, requirement specs).
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, with a track record of meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality standards.
• Familiarity with UX/UI design principles, tools (e.g., Figma), and design systems.
• Strong organizational skills and proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Jira, Trello, Asana, or equivalent).
• Motivated self-starter with a proactive approach to problem-solving and process adherence.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while fostering teamwork and innovation.

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Design, Project Management, or a related field.
• Experience in logistics, transportation or technology industries.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and working in cross-functional Agile teams.
• Experience leading design teams across multiple applications or products.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and their application in UI design.

Bonus Points

• Certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP, CAPM, or Agile certifications).
• Experience with design systems or component libraries in a large-scale organization.
• Background in healthcare technology, contributing to user experiences for patients or professionals.
