Pay Rate: $27.00-$30.00/hour
Hours: 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday (Hybrid: in-office Monday to Thursday, remote on Friday).

Position Overview:
As part of the Editorial team, the Creative department focuses on visual storytelling, from print to digital, ensuring excellence across all touchpoints. The team develops visual identities for content and creates interactive ways for users to engage with stories. We seek a detailed Assistant Designer to work across various platforms, combining high-quality design skills with a passion for storytelling.
Role Summary:
The Assistant Designer will be responsible for creating innovative design solutions for print and digital projects, working with editorial, graphics, photography, cartography, and interactive teams. This role will focus on designing layouts, digital storytelling, and ensuring high-quality production across multiple products.
Responsibilities:
- Conceptualize, plan, design, and produce layouts for publications, special issues, NG Kids, and interactive storytelling.
- Commission and art direct illustrators while collaborating with editorial, photography, and the Creative team.
- Work with production teams to ensure high-quality color proofing and preflight for print release.
- Maintain clear communication with team members, managers, and stakeholders to ensure high standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with design managers to stay on track with production schedules.
Qualifications:
Basic:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in design or user experience roles, or experience in using design to develop engaging content for consumer audiences.
- Fluency with Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Strong typography and design sensibility.
- Strategic, solutions-oriented mindset.
- Effective communicator and collaborator.
- Positive attitude with a passion for design and a willingness to contribute to various projects.
- Strong self-management and multitasking abilities.
- Portfolio showcasing previous design work.
Preferred:
- Experience in publishing or editorial design.
- Digital/UX design experience.
- Familiarity with Figma.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree (preferably in Design) or equivalent.
Additional Information:
- The position is non-exempt (overtime pay applicable).
- This is a junior role, focusing on publication design with experience in typography and layout. School or real-world experience in publication design is acceptable.
