The Upper Elementary Language Arts Teacher at The Rock Academy is responsible for teaching grammar and writing to 5th and 6th grade students while nurturing their academic, spiritual, and emotional growth. This teacher will join the collaborative team of Upper Elementary teachers and contribute to a Christ-centered learning environment focused on student growth and leadership development. The role includes building strong foundational skills in grammar, sentence structure, and writing composition, while integrating biblical truth into daily instruction. The Upper Elementary Language Arts Teacher reports to both the Upper Elementary Coordinator and the Elementary Principal.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Equip 5th and 6th grade students with the grammar and writing skills necessary for success in middle school and beyond.
- Collaborate effectively with fellow Upper Elementary teachers to support student learning and maintain consistency across grade levels.
- Plan and deliver weekly, age-appropriate Language Arts lessons focused on grammar, paragraph structure, sentence fluency, and both creative and expository writing.
- Align curriculum with school standards and participate in curriculum development and documentation for accreditation (WASC).
- Update grades, lesson plans, and assignments weekly; post to the online gradebook by Friday at 5:00 PM.
Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required; teaching credential preferred.
- Former teaching experience (minimum 2 years) preferred, especially in Language Arts or Upper Elementary grades.
- Ability to work collaboratively and positively within a team environment.
- Passion for teaching grammar and writing with clarity, creativity, and structure.
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
- Ability to integrate Christian values and biblical worldview into academic content.
- Proficient in using technology for instructional planning, grading, and communication.
- Consistent attendance and punctuality; must notify administration promptly regarding any absence or delay.
- Willingness to participate in devotions, school-wide readings, and ongoing spiritual and professional development.
- Active involvement in school events (e.g., Christmas/Spring programs, student activities, etc.).

- Demonstrate Christ-centered behavior at all times by treating others with dignity, respect, compassion, and integrity.
- Handle grievances in alignment with biblical principles (Matthew 18 and Ephesians 4:15).
- Successfully complete a LiveScan background check.
- Be a regular attendee of a Bible-believing Christian church
- Attend all required meetings and events as determined by school leadership.
- Sign and uphold the Rock Church Statement of Faith.
- Follow all policies and procedures outlined in the Rock Academy Staff Handbook.
- Maintain a professional and pleasant demeanor and appearance.
- Adhere to the school dress code: modest, professional-casual attire.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to function independently and communicate clearly. Must be physically able to lift up to 25 lbs (with or without assistance) and supervise students for extended periods of standing, walking, and active engagement.
Employment At-Will Statement:
Employment with The Rock Academy is at-will. This means either the employee or The Rock Academy may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice. Nothing in this job description creates a contractual right to employment or benefits for any specified duration.
Salary Description
$46,920-$65,159/annually
