The Library Assistant III will support and assist the Senior Curator of Aviation Archives in maintaining proper care of all types of archival materials, performing basic archival functions, such as arranging, processing, preserving, and describing archival materials, data entry in Microsoft Office applications and/or archival content management system, answering reference requests including photocopying and scanning archival materials.
Minimum Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a library setting; or any comparable combination of education and practical experience may be considered.
Preferred Education and Experience
Bachelors’ degree. Working knowledge of Microsoft applications. One year experience working in an academic library using an integrated library system. Graduate student or recent graduate of an accredited Library and Information Sciences. Ability to be detail-oriented and accurate in all phases of work. Experience working in a dynamic, demand-driven environment and the ability to work directly with others as well as individually.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintaining proper care of all types of archival materials
- Performing basic archival functions, such as arranging, processing, preserving, and describing archival materials
- Creating inventories of archival materials during the accessioning and processing process
- Data entry in Microsoft Office applications and/or archival content management system as well as library catalog
- Rearranging archival boxes on shelves for stacks maintenance
- Respond to national and international research requests via e-mail or by telephone and assisted patrons and scholars who visited the History of Aviation Archives
- Cover the area during Senior Curator’s absence
- Photocopying of documents and scanning images to fill patron’s orders
- Supports the Senior Curator of Aviation Archives in the day-to-day operations
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Ablility to lift 30 lbs. Push carts, and lift above the head, using step stools and ladders.
Work Notice:
Work will be conducted on-site and in person, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Occasional Saturday work may be required.
