About the role
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel is seeking a community-focused photojournalist for a new neighborhoods initiative, launching in early 2025. This grant-funded project aims to elevate neighborhood voices through visual storytelling, engagement, and community collaboration. The team will include an editor and reporters, with potential expansion as funding allows.
Responsibilities
- Tell stories in various formats such as newsletters, social media, and traditional media.
- Attend neighborhood events and listening sessions.
- Collaborate with the newsroom and community to produce engaging content.
- Create visual stories using photography and videography, experimenting with platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
- Use editing software such as Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and Photo Mechanic.
- Engage with the community through outreach and social media.
- Work with editors to evaluate and improve content based on audience metrics.
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, photography, or related field.
- 2-3 years of experience in multimedia storytelling.
- Proficiency in social media and multimedia tools.
- Strong photography, videography, and reporting skills.
- Ability to work outside of the office in diverse neighborhoods.
- Experience with video editing software like Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and Photo Mechanic.
