Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Library Director.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:This position plans, implements, and promotes engaging library programs and services for young adults (teens) and adult age groups and supporting community outreach initiatives. Provide clerical duties such as operating circulation desk; checking books, magazines, videos and other materials in and out of library; responding to questions from patrons; assisting library patrons. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing programs for young adults and adults, including but not limited to book clubs, workshops, author talks, and other events.Help design and promote engaging activities that encourage library use among teens and adults.Set up and take down materials and equipment for programs and events.Collaborate with community organizations and local schools to promote programs and services.Assist in maintaining the young adult and adult collections by shelving, organizing, and updating materials.Assist in weeding and recommending materials for acquisition to keep collections relevant and appealing to target audiences.Actively participates in outreach efforts by visiting schools, community groups, and local events to promote library services with Library Community Outreach Assistant.Help create promotional materials, including flyers, newsletters, and social media content to market programs and services to young adults and adults.Assist patrons in accessing and using library technologies, including eBooks, databases, and public computers.Provide basic instruction on the use of digital resources, such as downloading eBooks or accessing online research databases.Conduct shelf reading to ensure that materials are in the correct order.Maintain the general cleanliness and order of library areas, including straightening bookshelves, tables, and public areas.Maintain accurate records of program attendance, participant feedback, and outreach efforts.Respond to questions/inquiries submitted via WCML's website or the WCGOV's website.Works at circulation desk checking materials in and out of library; enters data into computer system.Assists with research, cataloguing or other services and programs as assigned.Assists patrons with locating library materials; assists patrons in use of copier and computer.Registers new library patrons and enters data into computer; processes library cards.Assist patrons with the use of public computers, digital resources, and other library technologies.Offer reader's advisory services by recommending books and resources based on patron interests.Orders requested books on NC Cardinal and maintaining inter-library loan files.Checks NC Cardinal for pending loans.Assists with homebound delivery services when necessary.Enters inter-library loan data into computer system; prints out inter-library loan requests; enters book reserves, holds and loans into computer system.Assist with balancing revenues daily.Performs related tasks as required.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:General knowledge of library routine and procedures; knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; ability to follow established procedures and to perform work requiring some detail; skill in the use of office and data entry equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and library patrons.
