Overview:
The Government Grants Writer is tasked with high-level professional responsibilities primarily focused on grant seeking, administration, and coordinating grant management activities for the Coalition of the Homeless of Central Florida, Inc. This role serves as the central contact for grant application submissions and plays a crucial "gatekeeping" function for accessing grant resources. The position involves significant interdepartmental coordination, requiring a deep understanding of federal, state, and other national government grant sources, and demands high levels of discretion and independent judgment in strategy development and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research and identify government grant funding opportunities relevant to the organization’s needs, using advanced analytical skills to evaluate potential benefits and alignment with organizational goals.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with government agency contacts to enhance grant opportunities, exercising independent judgment in the negotiation and customization of grant terms to meet organizational objectives.
- Design and write tailored, impactful grant applications and proposals, ensuring alignment with community needs and funder interests. This task requires sophisticated understanding and interpretation of complex statutory requirements and the ability to apply this knowledge creatively to benefit the organization.
- Manage the entire grant lifecycle, from writing and submission through to reporting and compliance monitoring, making independent decisions on how best to achieve grant objectives and ensure compliance.
- Maintain and update centralized records of grant activities, ensuring all documentation meets the requirements of governmental agencies, and independently resolving any discrepancies or issues that arise.
- Coordinate the preparation and participation in monitoring visits by grantors, ensuring findings and recommendations are distributed appropriately. Exercise discretion in collaborating with colleagues to ensure all findings are understood and addressed, making corrections where possible. Develop related training to prevent repeat findings and guide actions based upon them.
- Monitor specific grant budgets, ensuring funds are fully utilized in compliance with stipulated guidelines by the grant term’s end, applying advanced fiscal forecasting and regular budget-to-actual checks with finance to adjust allocations as necessary to maximize impact.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive policies and procedures for grant management, reflecting contract requirements and organizational standards, and deciding on the implementation of new procedures as regulations change.
- Assist in the execution of the development department's strategy, ensuring alignment with overall organizational goals, and making strategic decisions that influence the long-term success new and re-occurring government grant contracts.
- Participate in mandatory on-site All-Staff Meetings and weekly team meetings to ensure alignment, collaboration, and effective communication across departments involved.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field from an accredited university is required. A Master’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, or a similar field is preferred.
- Proven experience in identifying potential grant opportunities, developing and maintaining funder relationships, writing, and administering government grants.
- Progressive supervisory experience is beneficial.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with various stakeholders and building strong relationships.
- Advanced time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects, ensuring deadlines are met while maintaining work-life balance.
- High computer literacy, proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and skilled in utilizing various software and systems relevant to grant writing and administration.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, essential for complex problem-solving and decision-making within a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated project management and organizational skills to efficiently set priorities, establish clear deadlines, and follow through on commitments.
