Southern Virginia University is seeking a dynamic and innovative Director of Library Services to provide vision and leadership for the Von Canon Library. This role offers an opportunity to shape library services, resources, and initiatives in support of teaching, learning, scholarship, and research at a small liberal arts institution.

Responsibilities

• Lead and collaborate with university administration, library staff, and faculty to advance the mission and strategic goals of the university.
• Direct the daily operations of library services in a collegial atmosphere that fosters teamwork and excellence.
• Provide leadership and planning for all aspects of library operations, including:

1. Instruction and reference services
2. Collection development
3. Budgeting and resource allocation
4. Personnel recruitment, supervision, and professional development
5. Library systems and technology
6. Archives and Special Collections
7. Facilities maintenance and space utilization

Minimum Qualifications

• MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution.
• A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in a library setting.
• Proven leadership ability in planning, implementing, and assessing library services and programs.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administration.
• Experience managing budgets, personnel, and library technologies.
• Knowledge of current trends and issues in academic librarianship.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in academic libraries.
• Familiarity with grant writing.
• Instructional experience.
• Experience in strategic planning.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods. Primarily an office/library environment with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
