SALES REP
Come join our amazing team! Work for the daily Santa Fe New Mexican newspaper established in 1849. Work downtown where we provide free parking and youre close to the plaza where theres great restaurants and shops.
Summary of job: Sell and service print classified ads, legal notices, directory listings, recruitment, and online ad products, special projects pages, and obituaries. Prospect for leads. Suggest ad copy and placement ideas. Proofread for accuracy and schedule ads using our software systems. Excellent customer service is a priority.
Shift: 8a.m. to 5p.m., Monday through Friday. Working from the office with occasional outside sales required.
Required Education/Experience: Minimum high school diploma, or equivalent. Minimum one years sales experience or telesales experience plus customer service experience. Media sales and or print sales a plus.
Necessary Skills: Excellent communication skills are required, both written and oral. Must have good sales and presentation skills. Good grammar, spelling, proofreading and keyboarding skills are a must. Requires excellent customer service skills, computer literacy, and basic math skills. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet all deadlines.
Essential functions:
1. Prospect, qualify and generate sales for our digital and print products. Print and online classified sales, and special sections are appropriate to reach department objectives.
2. Engage in sales discussions with potential clients; conduct product presentations and demonstrations.
3. Answer inquiries relating to print and online classified advertising products we sell.
4. Prospect and solicit ads from competing products.
5. Process all advertisements, cancellations and corrections. Prepare layouts, process for print and/or online and bill ads. Check ad proofs and make corrections.
6. Perform call-backs on ad expiration dates and solicit repeat business.
7. Process legal notices, affidavits of publication, and Obituary notices as needed.
8. Perform administrative and cashier duties as assigned by Classified Manager.
9. Solicit advertising for special products and promotions as assigned.
10. Return voicemail and email messages on the same day we receive them.
11. Work cooperatively as a team and maintain effective relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
12. Sit for extensive periods of time, have good manual and bi-manual dexterity to operate a keyboard and general office equipment. Requires vision and hearing within normal ranges.
13. Ability to function effectively in a fast pace/high stress environment. Work with customers, deadlines, noisy conditions. Requires a large volume of work giving full attention to accuracy and detail.
14. Remain knowledgeable and up-to-date on changes and developments in print and e-commerce industries.
15. Keep management informed of all sales activity, including timely preparation of reports.
Additional Functions:
1. Assist Classified Manager with other duties in absence of key personnel.
2. Perform other duties as assigned by Classified Manager or the Ad Director.
3. Cross-trains on all other department functions, Legals, Obits, closing procedures and report generation.
Physical requirements: Able to sit for prolonged period. Have hearing and vision within normal ranges and manual dexterity to operate a keyboard and general office equipment. Be able to bend, lift and carry up to 10 pounds occasionally.
