Overview
Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP seeks a Librarian / Expert Witness Specialist for the Medical & Scientific Solutions team who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the medical library and medical research, and also for the identification, review and clearance of potential experts.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Responsible for retrieving and overseeing the retrieval of requested literature, recommending new titles for acquisition and maintaining request lists for appropriate tracking and invoicing. Ensuring the processing, tracking, and verifying of library requests within a database environment.
- Overseeing all processing and cataloging of materials into the library.
- Distribution and transfer of requested materials both within the Firm and to external clients, including distribution of information in various formats, such as CD / DVD.
- Tracking invoices, client accounts and issues related to distributing research materials.
- Ensuring that the library is well maintained and ordered to optimize the research environment.
- Consulting with the Managing Partner regarding information systems and continuity of ongoing research.
- Identifying, tracking, and updating information related to expert witnesses for a variety of clients.
- Performing background clearance reviews of potential and continuing expert witnesses.
- Working with a variety of databases and knowledge management software to identify and track expert witnesses.
- Performing preliminary review of expert related research literature and reliance literature.
- Interacting with outside clients and vendors on a regular basis, including taking requests and utilizing other document services.
- Working on special projects as needed.
- Willingness to be on-call, sometimes including weekends or holidays.
- Demonstrating support for management decisions through conduct, as well as written and verbal communication is expected.
- All other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS :
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily, with attention to detail. Excellent client service is expected. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and / or ability required. Punctuality and satisfactory attendance is imperative.
- Working knowledge of various types of technology such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret instructions, policies and procedures. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from direct reports, peers, and management. Ability to communicate with attorneys and staff and provide rapid and responsive customer service.
- Comfortable with ambiguity, deadline pressures, and able to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment. The ability to key / type quickly and efficiently.
A bachelor's degree (preferably in science, social science or library science field) and 3 years of relevant experience and / or training is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong reading comprehension and writing skills, computer skills, data searching skills and basic knowledge of Excel.
