Qualifications, skills, and all relevant experience needed for this role can be found in the full description below.PurposeAs a Creative Director, you’ll lead the art and design direction for the Floor & Decor brand. You’ll guide graphic designers and design production to create inspiring work that supports brand and business goals. You have a strong hands-on background in graphic design and you have proven experience leading art and design direction across multiple mediums (advertising, retail, digital and print graphic design, photography, illustration, animation, packaging) and you believe in the power of storytelling in a holistic way—visually as well as verbally. You have managed a team of designers and art directors across print and/or digital design and have worked closely with copy and content to tell engaging stories across in-store marketing, advertising, online content, packaging, and other brand communication touch points.This role will be a critical player in bringing our brand promise and personality to life for our customers. You will work very closely with the VP Creative (your manager), the creative & content team (content strategists, graphic designers, art directors, copywriters, in-house photo & video production), and key cross-functional partners and agency partners across marketing, visual merchandising, ecommerce, CRM, to develop a high standard of creative output that supports the business and brand. This role will both lead and do/design, so you must be passionate about managing and mentoring a team, growing graphic designers and art directors to excel and meet a high standard—as well as acting as a strategic partner to cross-functional stakeholders to get the best work out of the creative team.Minimum Eligibility RequirementsA degree in graphic design, portfolio school, or similar and 8+ years experience leading a design team.A proven track record leading design and art direction across multiple channelsA strong portfolio showcasing application of design to solve business objectives across a range of mediaExceptional taste and design aesthetic, versatility and awareness of design trends and innovationProactive organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; ability to drive multiple projects at a time, and iterate quicklyAble to work in fluid environments where you need to manage changing priorities, working closely with key stakeholders to clearly understand and communicate objectivesComfortable and confident in your interpersonal skills: listening, negotiating, motivating and decision-makingExcellent design and conceptual ability with thorough knowledge of developing and championing design systems, advertising, digital media, print (packaging, in-store marketing), and digital/print production.Excellence in typography, color, layout, and compositionDeep knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft 365 (proficiency with AfterEffects and Figma a plus)Passionate about guiding teams and being a strong creative manager and servant leader.Essential Job functionsStrengthen and push a high standard for the brand aesthetic across external and internal Floor & Decor touchpoints
With VP Creative & other creative leaders, lead or support the development of creative, concepts and campaigns to support marketing and business goalsLead implementing our art and graphic strategy and visual design system across mediums to create an inspiring and recognizable brand, carrying it through in everything we do from now and for the next 10+ yearsLead regular evolution and updates to visual guidelines and toolkits, ensuring consistent application of the brand internally and externallyPartner with copy/content leads to make sure our brand guidelines successfully guide our team plus our internal and external partnersWork with the VP Creative to find opportunities to strengthen and evolve the brand to resonate with our target audience in a way that feels genuine, ownable, and distinct from the competition.Able to clearly communicate design concepts and intention, verbally and visually.Develop a deep understanding of business objectives and customer needs, and how different customer touchpoints experiences can acquire and retain customers.Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and best practices, tools, accessibility standards, etc, and weave those into your work.

Model and guide the team on the optimal process for creative developmentLead and develop strong design and art direction capabilities to support brand development and storytellingBe a strong and motivating manager and mentor for the brand design teamThis role will be primarily a director/mentor (~80%) vs. doer/designer (~20%), so effectively managing and coaching team members to develop an inspiring visual aesthetic for the brand and guiding design work to high standards within a fast-paced environment must motivate youBe able to deliver and receive regular, ongoing feedback in a way that both pushes the brand and the team to always meet a high standard—supporting the team along the way, celebrating wins and continuous improvement.A self-starter with a positive attitude, who is able to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines.Set clear, and ambitious goals, and hold yourself and your team to the highest standard to achieve those goals.

With Creative & Content, create interwoven link between art and copywriting, within team, setting high storytelling standards both visually and verbally — i.e. you should believe that copy and art need to work together to speak to our consumerEstablish strong, collaborative working relationships with cross functional partners (Marketing, Visual Merchandising, Merchants, Internal Communications, Ecommerce) to inspire them and become a key partner in driving exceptional creative work.Work strategically with creative, content & copy team and cross-functional stakeholders to get to the most inspiring creative output across disciplines and channelsSet clear expectations with cross-functional teams and serve as a key strategic partner to key stakeholders (brand, retail, DTC) and Creative ops to deliver on expectationsWork with key stakeholders to shape briefs that drive inspiring work, collaborate on prioritization efforts, and work with marketing operations to build agile yet sustainable ways of workingSee projects throughout the entire design and art process, from pre-briefing (in partnership with marketing colleagues, playing a key role as creative leader) through execution—from big to small.
