Job Title:Graphic Design
Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Department/Group:Office of Mission Advancement
Reports To:Congregational Director of Mission Advancement
Mission Statement:
To stand in the presence of the living God and with Mary, make known to the world the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The Office of Mission Advancement exists to support and spread the mission of the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles.
Support: Congregational Fundraising; Service to our Apostolates; Develop resources and strategies to advance and communicate our mission according to the needs of our time
Spread: Spreading the Love of the Sacred Heart; Sharing our Carmelite Spirituality; Relationship Building.
Purpose of Your Job Position:
Creating and updating content, providing creative direction and designing collateral for the Carmelite Sisters and its affiliate Apostolic Centers. As a member of the communications team, contributes to overall communication strategy and helps coordinate communication projects as needed for the greater good of the OMA team.

Position Requirements
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Communication Arts, Graphic/Technical Production, or Graphic Design
- Artistic sensibility
- Internet and computer proficiency
- Fluently read, speak, write and understand English
- Technical skills, including but not limited to knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop
- Ability to communicate well and present design ideas both verbally and visually
- Organizational skills
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create designs, concepts, and sample layouts based on knowledge of layout principles and aesthetic design concepts.
- Create, design, assemble layouts for advertisements, flyers, brochures, program booklets, invitations, etc.
- Assist with all design needs for website and online presence.
- Assist with overall communication strategy as a member of the communications team.
- Create layout/compositions that are succinct and effective in communicating mission.
- Ensure that established brand guideline objectives are met on every project.
- Ensure that all design layouts are proof and print ready.
- Complete all assigned work within guidelines/timelines given.
- Follow all policies and procedures established for employees of the Carmelite Sisters
- Assist with other projects requested by the Congregational Director of Mission Advancement
Skills and Job Requirements
- Excellent working knowledge of Adobe Programs
- Experience or familiarity with modern tools like Adobe XD or Canva for prototyping and design
- Familiarity with basic video editing
- Project a professional image through in-person, electronic and phone interactions
- Strong oral and written communication skills, proficiency in written business English language. Able to proofread, copy edit
- Knowledge of best practices and principles of design
- Proven ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy
- Accepts responsibility and follows through on assignments.
- Ability and willingness to work as an individual and as part of a team in the planning, development and implementation of projects
- Capacity to multitask in a fast-paced environment, stay organized and proactively manage work flow to meet deadlines
- Must be able to receive and implement constructive feedback from others
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including, but not limited to computer system and programs, telephone system, fax, copier, scanner and calculator
- Keyboard entry at 50 wpm minimum
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and positive attitude
- Willingness and ability to adjust to changing conditions or priorities
- Maintain constructive relationships and demonstrate respect for everyone
- Maintain confidentiality regarding any and all information shared, received and accessed in the office.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must be able to push, pull, and move a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- Must be able to lift a minimum 25 pounds alone and a minimum of 50 pounds in partnered lifting to a minimum height of 5 feet.
Working Conditions
- Will need to sit and/or work on computer for extended periods of time
- Is subject to frequent interruptions
- Must be able to travel locally as needed
