Position: Designer

Location: Aurora, NY

Salary: $75,000 - $75,000/year

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.

Hours: 40 hrs/wk

Type: Permanent (w2)

Travel: Required (10%)

Job Summary: The Designer is a full-time position specifically responsible for all aspects of the product design process from conception to drawings, prototypes, and final samples. Rooted in the brand history, the designer is responsible for evolving the products to surprise and delight existing customers while keeping the aesthetic relevant to today’s marketplace.

Job Responsibilities:

• Conceptualize and design new products based upon inspirations provided through creative briefs, individual research, and discussions with the creative director and design team.
• Create designs digitally and by hand when necessary, incorporating signature patterns and textures, create or complete prototype samples, and construct in-house prototypes as needed.
• Create manufacturing development packets in collaboration with Product Managers and product instructionals for each new product.
• Communicate with vendors through telephone and emails as needed.
• Collaborate with other designers, production, and quality control for product approval.
• Manage workload and ensure personal work areas are organized and efficient.
• Maintain an awareness of market trends and materials to support innovative design initiatives.
• Create artwork to support the design cycle each season and as needed.
• Understand different materials and production processes.
• Research customer preferences to understand how people choose and use products.
• Follow deadlines as planned in the Design & Development Cadence Calendar.
• Order samples or working models when necessary.
• Travel to manufacturing resources to train or oversee designs in progress as needed.
• Offer critiques for products and samples in a timely manner.

Education and Experience:

• B.F.A. or B.A. in Fine Arts or Design recommended, but not required based on experience.
• Apparel, fashion, and home furnishings product designers especially invited to apply.

Qualifications:

• Creative individual with the ability to follow design direction.
• Positive attitude under pressure.
• Ability to communicate design ideas clearly.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and 3D software (AutoCAD 3D, SketchUp preferred).
• Strong understanding of key design concepts: color, pattern mixing, and historical design.
• Organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail required.

Training Required: Onboarding will be needed to become familiar with the product lines and design aesthetic.

Position will report to: Design Director

Location: Aurora, NY – must live in the local area.
