Summary
The City of Cudahy, under the executive direction of the City Administrator, seeks a candidate to fill the role of Communications Coordinator. The Communications Coordinator performs media responsibilities including assisting in the preparation and creation of publications, city website, videography, photography and other digital communications including social media management. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in the implementation and promotion of the City's initiatives, programs, events and vision. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Researching, writing, producing, photographing and assisting with video content creation and editing. Developing social media content and managing the city's social/emerging media presence, including monitoring trends, algorithms and legal considerations. Designing and updating information on City website, digital displays, and advertisements/publications. Assisting outside contractors with branding/marketing, including strategic planning and implementation across a variety of media. Responsible at times for working with departments to promote their individual initiatives, programs, events and goals. Duties may also include assisting with the development and distribution of news releases and fostering positive media relations. May manage contact with third-party marketing companies as needed. Track, review, and manage response for media requests, provide media/communications support during critical incidents. Assist in the organization of logistics and participants for press conferences involving the City and other government agencies.
Qualifications
Education:
A degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Digital Media, Graphic Design, or a related field is preferred but not required. Relevant professional experience, certifications, or a combination of education and training in communications, media, public relations, marketing, or a related field may substitute for a formal degree. Experience: Practical experience in communications, media relations, social media management, public relations, marketing, or similar roles. Proven ability to create and manage content across various platforms, including written, visual, and multimedia formats. Experience overseeing social media accounts, websites, or digital communication initiatives. Experience in the public sector, nonprofit organizations, or community outreach is desirable. Understanding of public engagement, government operations, or crisis communication strategies is a plus. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Candidate will have institutional knowledge regarding municipal operations and industry trends. Excellent verbal skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple deadlines under pressure are required. Strong social and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate ability to build and develop a relationship with reporters that cover the city of Cudahy and maintain an active list of media contacts. Positive attitude and enthusiasm for working in the public sector; strong sense of professionalism and ability to provide excellent customer service under pressure is a must. General proficiency/familiarity with social media channels. Individual must be able to think creatively and strategically, have excellent judgment and be able to work in a changing environment.

HOLIDAY: EMPLOYEES OF THE CITY OF CUDAHY RECEIVE 10 PAID HOLIDAYS ANNUALLY
PERSONAL DAYS: AFTER ONE YEAR OF EMPLOYMENT - EMPLOYEE WILL RECEIVE THREE PERSONAL DAYS EACH YEAR
SICK LEAVE: ELIGIBILITY FOR SICK LEAVE BEGINS AFTER SUCCESFUL COMPLETION OF THE PERFORMANCE PERIOD OF EMPLOYMWENT WITH THE CITY. NEW EMPLOYEES CONTINUE TO EARN 8 HOURS PER MONTH DURING THEIR FIRST 4 YEARS OF SERVICES.
MEDICAL: CITY CURRENTLY PAYS THE PREMIUM FOR A MEDICAL BENEFIT PLAN FOR EMPLOYEES AND THEIR FAMILIES UP TO THE MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE BY LAW AFTER 4TH YEAR, SICK LEAVE EARNED IS 4 HOURS PER MONTH TO A MAXIMUM OF 360 HOURS
VACATION: AFTER ONE FULL YEAR OF SUCCESFUL EMPLOYMENT - EMPLOYEE SHALL EARN: 2 WEEKS VACATION AFTER 1 YEAR 3 WEEKS VACATION AFTER 7 YEARS 4 WEEKS VACATION AFTER 15 YEARS 5 WEEKS VACATION AFTER 23 YEARS
