POSITION SUMMARY
The Cataloging & Metadata Librarian measures quality control of materials cataloging and maintains and monitors database and materials records. The Cataloging & Metadata Librarian provides copy cataloging expertise and develops, recommends, and implements policies for creating and maintaining bibliographic and authority records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In cooperation with the Assistant Collections Manager and other colleagues, The Cataloging & Metadata Librarian will advance the library's mission, vision, strategic priorities, and brand. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Perform original and copy cataloging of standard, electronic and other library materials, create linked items records, and product and apply labels.Perform authority control of names, series, and subjects in the Integrated Library System (ILS); work with authority control reports.Work with vendors to maintain cataloging and collection specifications relating to outsourced services and processes; correct errors in receiving shelf-ready materials.Create weekly and monthly lists of new titles for the public.Maintain catalog database and correct catalog data.Utilize batch record processes for records and files.Regularly add item copies to existing bibliographic records, withdraw records as needed, and delete library holdings in OCLC.Utilize new library technologies.Assist in creating and updating internal Collections team procedures, assist in planning and organizing department workflow, and maintain statistics. Participate in special projects, or other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONSBasic:Master's degree from a School of Library or Information Science program accredited by the American Library Association.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Google Suite products.Must obtain and maintain, through professional development credits, Indiana State Library Professional Librarian accreditation.Must possess a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.
Preferred:
2+ years' experience using computerized cataloging databases.1+ years' experience in original and copy cataloging and classification of all formats of library material using Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress (LC) classifications.1+ years' experience using BIBFRAME.1+ years' experience working in a library.A continuous learner with a welcoming attitude, a collaborative work ethic, and a desire to go above and beyond to serve our diverse community.
