The school librarian provides instructional leadership for information literacy skills, manages a diverse library collection that includes digital and print materials, and creates a flexible learning environment. Collaborates with faculty and administrators to support the curriculum.
Essential Job Functions:
- Teach information literacy skills to students and teachers.
- Maintain and manage print, non-print, and electronic collections and circulation.
- Collaborate with teachers on assignments promoting digital and inquiry learning.
- Develop the collection by selecting and updating resources.
- Introduce new instructional materials and technologies to staff.
- Supervise library assistants and volunteers.
- Lead special projects and reading initiatives to enhance literacy.
- Assist in preparing the library budget.
- Commit to ongoing professional development.
- Assess student learning and adapt instruction accordingly.
- Plan daily activities using district curriculum and national standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the library budget.
- Generate circulation and financial reports.
- Operate and instruct others in using library technology.
- Coordinate with various stakeholders including staff, students, and community members.
- Supervise and direct library staff and volunteers.
- Make independent decisions within responsibilities, with supervisor approval for broader impacts.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
Ability to sit, stand, bend, and reach; operate computers and equipment; and work in a moderate noise environment with potential exposure to dust and mold.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
- Eligibility for Virginia Collegiate Professional Licensure in Library Media NK-12.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Submission of transcripts, references, and license as part of the application process.
