PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
As a Tourism Public Relations Specialist at Visit North Carolina, you’ll play a pivotal role in showcasing North Carolina to the world by crafting memorable experiences for travel writers, influencers, and media professionals. Working under the direction of the marketing team, you will be responsible for managing itineraries, logistics, and strategic outreach to amplify the state’s tourism presence on both a national and international scale.
Key responsibilities include:
Curate Unforgettable Media Experiences:
- Develop and oversee customized familiarization (FAM) itineraries and logistics for hosted travel writers and influencers, working closely with media, tourism partners, and PR agencies to ensure seamless and inspiring trips.
- Conduct proactive media outreach and itinerary planning.
- Lead on-the-ground coordination during media visits, including in-person hosting.
- Follow up post-trip to track coverage, measure impact, and maintain strong media relationships.
Strengthen Industry Relationships:
- Represent Visit NC at events, conferences, and networking opportunities to build relationships with key media and tourism partners.
Lead Media Engagement Initiatives:
- Plan, coordinate, and execute media missions, workshops, press conferences, and special events that highlight North Carolina as a top travel destination.
Drive PR Impact:
- Conduct targeted media outreach in collaboration with the Public Relations Content
- Secure high-impact coverage.
- Manage the yearly media coverage tracker, analyzing PR valuation and maintaining an up-to-date database of domestic and international PR metrics.
- Share success stories with tourism partners to highlight media exposure and strengthen industry engagement.
Support Research & Operations:
- Coordinate with the domestic PR agency to provide necessary research and insights.
- Maintain partner databases, track PR team performance, and manage Salesforce entries for accurate reporting.
Collaborate & Adapt:
- Provide support to senior staff and serve as a backup for PR team projects as needed.

EQUIPMENT USED: General office equipment, e.g., laptop, cell phone, copier, etc.; proficient in Microsoft Office
WORKING CONDITIONS: In addition to working in general office environment, position requires multi-day statewide and domestic travel for familiarization tours, media missions, tradeshows and other events. Some international travel may be included. Work hours will include evenings, weekends and overnight travel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3-5 years public relations and/or marketing experience required; Experience in a tourism related field preferred.
LICENSES AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Valid passport may be needed.
