Position Summary
Indiana University Kokomo, New Media, Art and Technology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Graphic Design faculty position. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2024, pending final budgetary approval.
Indiana University and the New Media Art and Technology program seek applicants with proficiency, an educational background, and teaching experience in Graphic Design/Visual Communication Design utilizing print and digital deliverables. Additional skills considered beneficial include web design, digital media, animation, and video. The expected courses to teach include graphic design, typography, logos, visual communications, and foundations.
One of eight campuses of Indiana University, Indiana University Kokomo is a comprehensive non-residential campus located 50 miles north of Indianapolis in Kokomo, Indiana, with a population of about 57,000. Basic Qualifications
M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Graphic Design or Visual Communications Design. Candidates are expected to be effective teachers and active researchers. Two years of university teaching beyond graduate school. Appropriate university/professional/community service is also required, including committee work, assessment of the major, and engaging in campus initiatives to increase retention and enrollment. Evidence of effective teaching and disseminated research or creative work and a service record will be required for tenure and promotion.

Additional Qualifications
The teaching load is 4/4, though faculty are given a one-course release each semester to engage in research and/or creative activity. Thus, the effective teaching load is 3/3. Teaching responsibilities include core foundations and undergraduate courses. The candidate should be able to contribute to the development of existing graphic design/visual communication courses and implement new course content at both entry and advanced levels.
Indiana University Kokomo and the New Media Art and Technology Program are responsive to the changing realities of contemporary art & design disciplines. We encourage in our students and faculty substantive dialogue and interconnectedness between traditional and digital mediums as well as fine art and client-based work. NMAT facilities include 3d media studios/labs for a diverse and expanding range of work, including digital fabrication, digital imaging, audiovisual editing, rapid prototyping, digital printing, painting, printmaking, installation, and sculpture.
