About the Agency
Mississippi Public Broadcasting is a state-licensed public media organization serving audiences across Mississippi through radio, television, and digital platforms. MPB is a founding partner in the Gulf States Newsroom—a regional journalism initiative in collaboration with WWNO and WRKF in Louisiana, WBHM in Alabama, and NPR. The goal of this partnership is to strengthen public media coverage in a region deeply affected by the decline of local news outlets.

The goal of this partnership is to strengthen public media coverage in a region deeply affected by the decline of local news outlets.Key Responsibilities• Report and produce compelling audio and digital stories with a focus on underreported communities in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana, particularly rural areas.• Build lasting relationships within the communities covered, fostering trust and gaining insight into local priorities.• Contribute stories for broadcast and digital platforms, both locally for MPB and regionally for the Gulf States Newsroom.• Collaborate with MPB's digital and editorial teams to support engagement strategies and improve audience connection.• Work closely with the Gulf States Newsroom managing editor on planning and coverage coordination.
What you'll need to be Successful
• Strong reporting, writing, and storytelling skills across audio and digital formats. • Demonstrated interest in community engagement or community-centered journalism. • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, multi-state team. • Willingness to travel regularly throughout Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana especially to rural communities.
Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a bachelor's degree and 1-4 years of experience. Agency preferred qualifications:Experience with public radio is a plus but not required.
