Fashion Program
The Fashion Design program is part of the Division of Arts, which also includes Film, Theater, Dance, Music, Digital Arts, and Visual Arts. The Associate of Arts – Fashion Design pathway offers foundational skills, advanced technological training, and industry trend insights to prepare students for today’s fast-paced fashion industry.
Courses are led by industry professionals and cover apparel design, fashion drawing, pattern drafting (manual and CAD), digital fashion design, merchandising, styling, and more. Students have access to a state-of-the-art design lab, specialized databases, and industry publications to prepare for the field.
A highlight is the annual spring fashion show, where students showcase their brands. Sustainable fashion is integrated into the curriculum, emphasizing innovation and environmental responsibility.
About the Position
The position begins in the 2025-26 academic year as a nine-month contract. Faculty teach and work a set schedule from August to May, which may include day, evening, and weekend duties.
As Department Head, you will influence the program’s future and ensure its success. This full-time role includes teaching, leadership, and administrative duties. The department head model is subject to review after two years.
Faculty may teach in person, online, hybrid, or virtual environments. Emerging approaches like fast-track, IBEST, and dual enrollment may be employed. Course scheduling could include daytime, evenings, and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide visionary academic leadership for the Fashion Design program, aligning with college goals.
- Oversee curriculum development, integrating industry trends, sustainability, and technology.
- Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty, fostering collaboration and innovation.
- Support student success through a positive, inclusive learning environment.
- Build industry partnerships to enhance internship and career opportunities.
- Manage budgets and resources, including labs and equipment.
- Promote the program to prospective students, the community, and industry stakeholders.
- Lead event planning, including the annual fashion show and outreach initiatives.
- Ensure accreditation standards are met and assessments are implemented.
- Create and maintain class schedules.
- Teach as part of faculty duties.
General Duties:
- Teach approximately 15 load hours per semester.
- Facilitate learning and academic success.
- Assess student performance and provide advising.
- Continuously improve instruction to meet Student Learning Outcomes.
- Update course materials and maintain professional currency.
- Engage in professional development and serve on college committees.
- Foster partnerships and community engagement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Experience in organizing fashion shows and events.
- Awareness of global fashion impacts and sustainability.
- Ability to stay current with industry trends and technologies.
- Professional portfolio demonstrating creativity and innovation.
- Capability to develop curricula, build industry partnerships, and secure grants.
Job Requirements
Minimum qualifications:
- Master’s degree in the field plus 4+ years of apparel industry experience, OR
- Master’s degree in any discipline plus 18 graduate hours in the field and 6+ years of industry experience, OR
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field plus 6+ years of industry experience, including 2+ years as a senior designer.
Additional requirements:
- Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Potentially teach at multiple campuses.
- Teach in various modalities.
Preferred qualifications include extensive industry experience, advanced degrees, and skills in industry partnerships, CAD, and event planning.
