Description: Communications Officer - 911 Dispatcher Emergency Services Are you ready to make a difference in your community? Join our team as a 911 Communications Officer where every call matters and every moment counts. About the Role: As a Communications Officer, you'll be the vital link between emergency responders and people in need. Working from our 911 dispatch center, you'll handle emergency and non-emergency calls while coordinating with Law Enforcement, Fire Rescue, and Emergency Services personnel. What You'll Do: Receive and dispatch 911 calls, providing critical emergency medical instructions when needed Coordinate emergency responses across multiple agencies Monitor and relay weather alerts to emergency responders Manage multiple computer systems and databases, including NCIC Maintain accurate dispatch records and verify crucial information Provide support to field officers through license plate and background checks Must-Have Qualifications: High school diploma or GED Legal authorization to work in the USA Ability to pass background check and drug screening Type at least 45 WPM Ability to maintain confidentiality Willingness to complete required certifications and training Preferred Experience: 2-3 years of 911 dispatch experience ideal Bilingual capabilities ideal, but not required (English/Spanish) Knowledge of public safety software and radio systems Familiarity with Jasper County geography Understanding of public safety radio codes Work Environment & Schedule: 12-hour shifts in a dispatch center environment Workstation includes 6 monitors and multiple input devices Must be comfortable in dim lighting conditions Essential personnel status - may be required during emergencies/natural disasters Physical Requirements: Able to remain seated for extended periods Occasional light lifting Manual dexterity for operating multiple computer systems May require occasional travel for training This role offers the opportunity to serve your community in a meaningful way while developing valuable skills in emergency services.
