Overview
The San Bernardino County Library System is hiring a Library Technician for the Trona Branch Library. The candidate should be prepared to work in a highly interactive and fast-paced customer service environment. Responsibilities include implementing system-wide programs in areas such as youth, adult, literacy, volunteer, and technology; providing reference and circulation services; backroom operations; and essential duties like shelving, checking in/out books, issuing/renewing library cards, and collecting fines/fees on a computerized system.
The eligible list will be used to fill current and future vacancies at the Trona Branch only. Trona is an unincorporated community in northwest San Bernardino County, with a population of approximately 2000. It is located southwest of Death Valley, in the Greater Mojave Desert, on the western edge of Searles Lake playa. Trona is approximately 150 miles/2.5 hours north of San Bernardino. Conditions of Employment
- Work Schedule: Part-time, up to 38 hours per two-week period; weekend and evening work required. Part-time employees receive pro-rated vacation, holiday, and sick leave. Retirement and health benefits are not provided. The list will be used to fill vacancies as they occur.
- Physical Requirements: Frequent reaching, bending, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 75 lbs., with continuous lifting of materials and books up to 25 lbs.
- Pre-Employment Process: Background investigation, fingerprinting, medical exam, and TB screening required.
- Sponsorship: No visa sponsorship available. Candidates must have legal right to work in the U.S.
- Age Requirement: Minimum 16 years old; those under 18 must have a valid work permit if a student.
Qualifications
NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Ideal candidates enjoy working in a high-demand, fast-paced environment with a diverse patron base. Experience with computers and cash handling is desirable. Excellent oral communication skills are essential. An online assessment in customer service, computer usage, cash handling, and filing will be conducted. Candidates may test once every three months and remain on the list for three months.
