Overview
My name is Yue Hua, and I teach Production Design at Emerson College and Boston University. I’m reaching out to invite professionals with expertise in Production Design and Art Department work to serve as guest speakers in my classes during Spring 2025 (January–May).
This is a paid opportunity for professionals with 1–5 years of experience in the art department to engage with aspiring creatives and share their career journeys.
DETAILS
- Emerson College
Number of Guest Speakers: 1
Compensation: $150 for a 90-minute Zoom visit or $200 for a 90-minute in-person visit.
Class Time: Mondays, 2 p.m.–10 p.m. - Boston University
Number of Guest Speakers: 2-3
Compensation: $100 for a 60-minute visit (Zoom or in-person). Parking is reimbursed for in-person sessions.
Class Time: Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m.–9:15 p.m.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
1–5 years of local working experience in roles such as:
- Production Designer
- Art Director
- Prop Master
- Construction Coordinator
- Costume Designer
- Set Designer
- Set Dresser
- Art Department PA
Industry Background:
Experience in TV, feature films, and/or commercials is required.
Work Authorization:
Eligible to work in the USA.
POTENTIAL TOPICS: We’re looking for speakers to cover topics such as:
- Project Breakdown: Share a case study of a project you’ve worked on, detailing the process from pre-production to final delivery.
- Career Path: Discuss your entry into the industry, challenges faced, and advice for students aspiring to art department roles.
- Skills and Experience Sharing: Highlight a unique skill/tip that has benefited your career and share insights from your professional journey, such as low-budget filmmaking tips, how to maintain a budget, how to coordinate with different departments, and how to put together a resume/website for a job.
