The Role
Do you have experience leading music in Protestant worship services? Can you play and sing a variety of musical styles, from contemporary praise to traditional hymns? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you.
We are looking for a skilled Music Director to lead the Protestant music programme for our Sunday services. You will be responsible for selecting, rehearsing, and performing music that enhances worship, ensuring a seamless and uplifting experience for the congregation.
This role requires attendance every Sunday, including holidays that fall on a Sunday. The service runs from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM, and you must arrive at least 40 minutes beforehand to conduct sound checks and rehearsals.
This is a part-time position, working on average 5 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, lead, and perform music for Protestant worship services, ensuring a cohesive experience. Select and provide 4 to 7 songs per service, tailored to the themes and structure of each service. Play an instrument (piano, keyboard, organ, or guitar) and lead vocally. Conduct weekly rehearsals (approximately one hour) to prepare music with praise teams and choirs. Work closely with the sponsoring Chaplain to coordinate musical selections. Maintain professional relationships with chapel staff, congregation members, and volunteers. Set up and test audio equipment before each service, ensuring proper volume levels and instrument tuning. Adapt to special holiday services with appropriate musical planning. The Person
At least two years of experience leading worship music in a Protestant setting. Strong ability to play and sing in contemporary, liturgical, and gospel traditions. Ability to sight-read music, teach harmonies, and coordinate multiple instruments. Understanding of Protestant worship traditions and theology. Comfortable working independently and collaborating with church staff and volunteers.
