About Us
The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department is mandated to ensure and enhance public safety for the citizens of Boston, Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop. Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins oversees the Suffolk County Jail, the House of Correction, and the Suffolk County Community Corrections Center.
Responsibilities
- Researches and identifies grant prospects at the state and national level.
- Determines proposal concept by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying RFPs, attending strategy meetings, and developing a strong understanding of the organization’s work, programs, priorities, history, mission, and results.
- Maintains grant deadlines and program tracker; enters relevant information into the organization’s database; coordinates requirements with program staff; contributes proposal status updates.
- Handles communication with high-net-worth donors and foundation representatives professionally.
- Drafts, revises, and produces high-quality proposals and reports, ensuring readability, consistency, and appropriate tone. Gathers information on project objectives, implementation, staffing, budget, and evaluation.
- Prepares content for external communications such as newsletters, blogs, and social media posts related to grants.
- Assists with database management, including generating reports for funder queries.
- Prepares presentations for current and prospective partners using various media formats.
- Evaluates and redesigns proposal processes and templates to improve outcomes.
- Works collaboratively to achieve organizational goals and explores opportunities to add value.
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in grant writing, prospect research, fundraising, or related fields.
- Understanding of donor markets, with willingness to research beyond Illinois and nationally.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills.
- Entrepreneurial attitude with results-driven focus and ability to prioritize.
- Excellent organizational, written, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet research.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- High ethical standards for handling confidential information.
