Official Court Reporter - Ninth Judicial District Court –Pinedale

The Ninth Judicial District Court is seeking an Official Court Reporter for the Honorable Katharine McKay, sitting in both Sublette County and Fremont County. This Court presides over felony criminal cases, civil cases, domestic relations, juvenile, probate, and other matters. This at-will position is to be full-time and primarily on-site, in Pinedale or potentially Lander, with remote work to be evaluated on a situational basis.
SUBLETTE COUNTY AREA: This primary court is located in Pinedale, Wyoming, which sits in a high alpine valley at 7,175’, surrounded by three large mountain ranges. As part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the Bridger-Teton National Forest is a hub for a variety of outdoor recreation. A small but vibrant community, Pinedale has many services and attractions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:This position description and outline of duties in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed. The Official Court Reporter will be expected to satisfactorily perform and complete such work as a judge may assign and direct. Strict confidentiality is required.
- Reports and transcribes proceedings of court trials, hearings, or conferences as required by law or at the request of the judge.
- Reviews transcriptions for technical accuracy. Timely prepares and distributes transcripts and related documents.
- Maintains records of notes and exhibits.
- Performs clerical duties related to the court.
- Attends meetings and training as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to applicants with work experience in transcription or court reporting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
This position requires an ability to:
- Plan, prioritize, and carry out assignments and timely complete projects with minimum supervision.
- Professionally and courteously deal with people, including co-workers, attorneys, other judges, and the public beyond giving and receiving instructions, including being adaptable to performing under varied levels of stress.
This position requires skills in:
- Stenography.
- Transcription.
- Assessing, evaluating, prioritizing and timely handling multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
- Working within deadlines, including but not limited to District Court Rules to complete projects and assignments.
- Establishing and maintaining effective work relations with co-workers and others having interactions with the District Court.
- Explaining court procedures and processes in a clear, concise, and comprehensive manner.
- Operating a computer utilizing a variety of commonly used and specialized software applications.
- Operating usual office and courtroom equipment and technology.
- Preparing clear and comprehensive written and electronic court documents, correspondence, forms, and reports.
This position involves knowledge of and/or the willingness to learn:
- Applicable District Court, State, and County rules, policies, processes, and procedures.
- Principles involving planning, scheduling, calendaring, and travel.
- Legal terminology.
- Principles and protocols for managing official documents and records.
- Principles of file and records management.
- Principles of bookkeeping and/or accounting, including invoicing and accounting systems, rules, and standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Certification:
Must possess a minimum Registered Professional Reporter certification or an equivalent certification from a certifying state; and be proficient in computer-aided transcription and real-time.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Use standard office equipment.
Sit at a desk for prolonged periods and work on a computer.
Stand and/or walk occasionally to frequently.
Read printed materials and computer screens.
Communicate in person, by e-mail, video, or over the phone.
Lift up to 25 pounds at times.
Occasional travel.

- Employment is “at-will” and subject to a background check.
