Maumee Valley Country Day School is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and student-centered music educator to teach choral, instrumental, and a variety of music classes, including AP Music Theory to students in grades 7-12 for the remainder of the school year. The ideal candidate has experience fostering a love of music in students, differentiating instruction for a diverse range of musical abilities, and integrating technology and creative methodologies into music education.
This position reports to the Head of Upper School and collaborates closely with faculty across multiple divisions, including the arts department and co-curricular programs. Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and implement engaging curricula for 7-12 general music, choral ensembles, instrumental music, Orff pedagogy, and AP Music Theory
- Conduct and direct choral and instrumental performances, including concerts and assemblies
- Provide individualized instruction to students with varying levels of musical proficiency
- Integrate Orff Schulwerk methodology and other innovative teaching techniques to support student engagement and musical growth
- Actively contribute to the schools diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
- Support and mentor students in extracurricular music activities, competitions, and community performances
- Collaborate with other faculty to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities
- Maintain and organize music materials, instruments, and equipment
- Support extracurricular musical theater
- Facilitate vocal ensemble 3 days per week before school
- Engage in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide events
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
- Strong pedagogical knowledge in choral, instrumental, and AP Music Theory instruction
- Ability to create inclusive and equitable learning environments
- Strong classroom management and student engagement strategies
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Proficiency in integrating music technology (e.g., Finale, GarageBand, SmartMusic, etc.)
- Experience with differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Passion for fostering students creativity and artistic expression
- Strong piano/accompaniment skills
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field
- Experience teaching middle and/or high school music
- Ability to secure an Ohio Permanent Non-Tax certificate or Professional Teaching License within the first six months of employment
- Masters degree in Music or Education
- Experience teaching AP Music Theory
- Background in conducting ensembles at the secondary level
Must be willing and able to secure an Ohio Permanent Non-Tax Certificate or Professional Teaching License. The school will support the candidate in obtaining this certification, but it must be secured within the first six months of employment for compliance purposes.
