Visit Winona is creating a new, full-time Marketing Director position. The Marketing Director will be responsible for developing and executing marketing strategies collaboratively with the Executive Director to promote Winona utilizing various channels like content creation, digital marketing, social media, and public relations, with the goal of attracting visitors and increasing visits to Winona. This person will enhance Winonas economic development by promoting tourism through collaborations and partnerships with Visit Winonas partners, local and regional hospitality businesses and stakeholders, and the broader tourism industry.
The Marketing Director needs a diverse set of skills, including strong communication, leadership, and analytical abilities. They must be adept at strategic thinking and project management. Additional essential skills include creativity, adaptability, and the ability to collaborate effectively.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Marketing & Promotions:
Implement marketing strategies in line with the organizations strategic plan focusing on branding and position growth, identification of new markets, delivery of content, and timely engagement with our partners, customers, city and interested audiences of the Visit Winona Partnership Program.
Create an annual workplan, media calendar, and editorial calendars for print and social media platforms, and trade shows.
Research best practices for new sales and marketing strategies on expanding and emerging market segments, including prospecting and researching for new business leads and Destination Marketing Organization visibility.
Create targeted marketing campaigns across various platforms to reach potential visitors based on demographics and interests.
Coordinate opportunities for collaboration and partnership with Explore Minnesota and media offerings to market Winona through co-op programs, articles and brand copy, familiarization tours, and influencer itineraries.
Actively manage social media accounts to build community engagement and promote tourism offerings. Responsible for social media platforms.

Maintain an updated website with relevant and timely information, imagery, and SEO best practices to improve organic search rankings.
Media/Public Relations:
Build relationships with media outlets to secure positive press coverage for the destination, purchase, and coordinate media buys, co-op programs, and create content, images.
Create content for monthly e-newsletters, article requests from media outlets, reports, familiarization tour itineraries, influencer visits, etc.
Oversee annual tourism celebration as an intra-community marketing function.
Co-create the annual Winona Visitor Guide.
Analytics/Reporting:
Analyze tourism trends, competitor activity, and customer data to inform marketing strategies. Using Zartico platform and Google Analytics, provide monthly reports to the Executive Director and Marketing Committee.
Evaluate and report upon the impact of each media platform and the cross-platform implications for programs, events, etc.
Track key metrics like website traffic, social media engagement, and conversions to evaluate campaign effectiveness.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of tourism industry, and Winona region attractions, events, and activities
Strong written, oral and communication skills
Creative thinking, design, photography and videography capabilities and experience
Digital marketing expertise and experience (SEO, PPC, Social Media Advertising)
Analytical and reporting skills to measure and evaluate campaign performance
Proficiency in content management systems (CMS)
Education & Experience / Knowledge & Skills:
Bachelors degree in tourism, marketing, hospitality sales, public relations, or a related field, and at least 5 years experience in digital marketing and social media management
Previous experience with an advertising agency, Destination Marketing Organization, and/or with media representatives is helpful.
Ability to travel out of area to attend trade shows, meetings with industry professionals and other related activities
Ability to establish and maintain effective and credible working relationships with the public, co-workers, city officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
Ability to maintain flexible work schedule to manage multiple priorities and meet demanding deadlines

Strive to anticipate work to be done and initiate proper and acceptable direction for the completion of work with a minimum of supervision and instruction.
Work collaboratively with fellow Visit Winona staff, as well as local stakeholders.
Physical Demands:
Must possess own vehicle with a valid drivers license and an acceptable driving record.
Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
DETAILS AND COMPENSATION
Visit Winonas office is located in downtown Winona. The Marketing Director should expect to be onsite or in the community most of their full-time working hours. Some evenings and weekends and some travel are required as part of the role.
Visit Winona offers a competitive salary package of $65-75,000 annually, depending on qualifications. Benefits include elective medical and dental coverage, life insurance, and SIMPLE IRA with up to 3% employer match. Visit Winona offers 9 paid holidays and 1 floating holiday, and paid vacation time starting at 10 days per year.
Frequent travel around the community is required. Physical requirements include visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting and standing to perform the essential job functions.
