JOB MISSION
The Grant Writer plays a critical role in securing the organization’s financial sustainability and programmatic success through strategic grants management and funder engagement. This position is responsible for developing and submitting high-quality grant proposals, cultivating and stewarding relationships with current and prospective grant funders, and identifying new funding opportunities. This role also oversees the grant calendar and ensures compliance with all grant requirements. The Grant Writer collaborates with teams across the organization to gather data, financial information, and success stories to craft compelling narratives that highlight the organization’s impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES & RESULTS
FUNDRAISING
- Prepare high-quality, tailored grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents to secure funding for organizational priorities and specific programs.
- Work collaboratively with the program, finance, and communications teams to gather relevant data, success stories, and financial information to ensure alignment between grant proposals, budgets, and organizational priorities.
- Develop compelling narratives and cases for support that highlight the organization’s impact and align with funder priorities, adapting language and style as needed for each grant application.
- Submit grant proposals and supporting materials on time, ensuring all requirements are met according to funder guidelines.
EXISTING DONOR STEWARDSHIP
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with current and prospective grant funders, serving as a key point of contact to build trust and engagement.
- Develop and implement a stewardship plan for grant funders that includes regular updates, impact reports, and opportunities for deeper involvement.
- Maintain detailed records of all funder interactions, ensuring that relationship histories and contact information are accurate and accessible.
NEW DONOR CULTIVATION
- Conduct thorough research to identify and evaluate grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources that align with the organization’s mission and programmatic goals.
- Prepare and maintain a grant calendar, tracking application deadlines, reporting timelines, and renewal opportunities.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

- Exceptional writing, editing, and communications skills

- Strong interpersonal skills. Able to interact effectively and build collaborative relationships with stakeholders and colleagues. Able to communicate effectively with diverse colleagues, partners, and funders
- A belief in the mission and values of YPIE, including the belief that all students can succeed, and a desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families, and communities
- Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours depending on grant deadlines

- Prior experience in development, grant writing, and/or communications
- Prior experience working with DonorPerfect

JOB DETAILS
Hours: Full-Time (40 hours per week)
Calendar: 12 Month, Administrative Calendar
Location(s): In-person, YPIE National Office, with some virtual work flexibility
Salary Range: $65,000 to $75,000 depending on experience
Reporting to: Senior Director, Partnerships
