Job Goal:The role of the library clerk is to assist the Librarian Media Specialist in encouraging and facilitating student success through the use of the library and its resources. The library clerk shall assist the librarian in the overall maintenance, documentation, and record keeping of the library material property. The library clerk will assist the Library Media Specialist to ensure the library/media center is involved in instructional programs of the campus and will assist campus principals and teachers in integration and use of instructional technology.

Qualifications:Education/Certification:

High school Diploma or GEDTyping ability to meet or exceed 35 wpmPrevious clerical experienceData Processing experienceMajor Responsibilities:Handle routines for automated circulation of material, including online resourcesAssist teachers and students in locating appropriate resourcesAssist in gathering instructional materials for teachers that coincide with instructional plansOrganize library materialsPerform daily routine housekeeping dutiesReceive, check, and process new materials as directedPrepare bulletin boards, displays, and interest centersPrepare and present story times at the elementary level as directed by media specialistAssist the librarian/media specialist with skills, classes, or groups as appropriateAssist teachers and pupils in the proper use and handling of equipment, including technologyPrepare books for the binderyPerform other tasks when asked to do so by the librarian/media specialist, principal, or library coordinatorAdditional Requirements:Ability to work in variable environmental conditionsPhysical ability to do lifting of 10 lbs. or more, light to moderate carrying up to 10 lbs. or more, talking, bending, kneeling, pulling, reaching, grasping, pushing, stooping, walking, standing, sitting, climbing, occasional running and the ability to move with agilityAbility to remain current in electronic resources, software processes and applicationsAbility to adjust to a frequent change of tasks and occasionally perform tasks simultaneouslyAbility to work as a team memberAbility to work with time pressureAbility to work in a sometimes noisy/distracting environmentThe ability to maintain emotional control under stressThe ability to understand and practice confidentialityKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to communicate in oral and written form in EnglishExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsKnowledge of computer applicationsSkill in the usage of computer, SmartBoard, document camera, and other devicesAbility to follow directives from the Principal or other campus leadership personnel
