Director of Advancement Communications

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Advancement, Director of Advancement Communications coordinates mass and segmented contact for alumni, donors, parents, and varied constituents on behalf of the department, to include Alumni and Constituent Engagement and Annual Giving. The overall goal of these programs is to keep constituents aware, encourage engagement, solicit support, and offer on-brand consistency. The successful candidate will be able to successfully advocate for communications best practices, while championing the goals and competing priorities of the team.

The Director of Advancement Communications collaborates closely with the Director of Alumni Engagement along with Annual Giving and Major Gift staff, in partnership with the Marketing and Communications Department.

Job Duties:

  • Oversee all communication channels on behalf of Advancement – email, direct mail, social media, web, and magazine (coordinate on department’s behalf with Mar/Comm).
  • Through strategic team meetings, coordinate balanced communication campaigns that lead with engagement and end with calls to action to include fundraising, volunteer work, and more.
  • Coordinate upcoming campaign communications and branding.
  • Manage regular newsletters to include Word from Washington, 1782, Athey Athletics Club as well as develop series for CES, Lit House (ongoing), and the Starr Center.
  • Guided by data, identify gaps and direct new strategies and techniques to better engage constituents.
  • Lead resubscribe efforts, working closely with Advancement services to champion data integrity efforts.
  • Administer budgets  for all communications materials.

Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of substantial communication experience within an institution or company.
  • Project management experience, organized and experienced to multi-task and discern required duties and expectations to handle multiple projects at once, and to meet strict deadlines.
  • Creative and innovative to problem solve or bring about solutions.
  • Experienced knowledge and use of office technology, hardware and software, with preference for Microsoft office products and Adobe Creative Suite. Experience utilizing a CRM preferred.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills to communicate to multiple audiences, including those from underrepresented populations.
