The Library Assistant (temporary) will work with both Principal and Associate Principal Librarians to help prepare music for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) and Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO).

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:Prepare music for rehearsals and performances as directed by Principal Librarian. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: preparing a set of parts with master score and principal string bowings; proofreading and marking sets with available errata or creating errata lists when none exist; adding measure numbers and/or rehearsal letters/numbers; adding cuts, edits, and/or inserts; repairing deteriorating parts/scoresAssembly and disassembly of concert folders, including but not limited to: checking and searching for missing parts, creating post performance bowing reference masters and uploading them to the appropriate folders, filing ASO owned music away and/or promptly returning rental music to publishersAssist with music acquisitions, purchased and rented. Verify accurate content and condition of music received with regard to the score and packing listsAssist with the maintenance and organization of the ASO music collectionAssist with the preparation of practice parts and other requests for ASO and ASYO musiciansMaintain confidentiality at all times, especially with respect to artistic planningAdditional duties as assigned by the Principal LibrarianSPECIFIC CONDITIONS OF WORK:

The Library Assistant is a part-time, non-exempt position working on an as-needed basis in-person in the ASO Library. Hours shall be assigned in a mutually agreeable fashion with the Principal Librarian during ordinary business hours (Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm). Hours may be scheduled during the weekend during ASO or ASYO services as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Undergraduate degree in music and/or significant experience with an orchestral instrumentStrong ability to read music, including familiarity with orchestral literature, foreign musical terms, bowing marks, as well as proficiency in score-reading and instrumentation knowledgeClose attention to detail and accurate work is fundamental to this positionMust have clear, legible handwriting.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
