TV Producer – Investigations

Summary of Position

Produce high quality video and digital video investigative content from the work done by our investigative and enterprise teams in the newsroom,  leveraging state-of-the-art studio facility, award-winning video department and Newsday staff journalists.

Essential Duties & Functions

  • work in conjunction with Newsday investigative and enterprise reporters and produce investigative and/or enterprise television stories or series that can run on all newsday platforms including mobile, desktop, social, ott apps, etc.
  • be involved in all investigation and enterprise reporting or any content of depth that is exclusive to newsday from conception to production. this person would be a member of the newsday investigative team and spend majority of time producing video.
  • Help oversee deployment of investigative/enterprise video resources
  • Manage full range of studio and remote productions, including interviews, live events, documentaries, multi-part series, all related to Newsday unique investigative and enterprise content.
  • Produce and write original scripts for tv and digital video platforms.
  • Coordinate effectively with other editorial, interactive, social and marketing operations.

Essential Job Knowledge & Skills

  • A bachelor’s degree required. A Degree in Journalism, Communications, or equivalent work experience is preferred, but not required.
  • 1-2 years of experience as a line and/or field producer in commercial TV news production facility.
  • ability to produce in both 16x9 and 9x16 formats.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Writing ability - strong writing, editing and storytelling skills.
  • familiarity with data, foia, etc. a plus
  • Solid news sense and knowledge of TV journalism,
  • on air and reporting skills
  • Familiarity with major newsroom systems.
  • Good leadership skills.
  • Ability to work creatively and smoothly across departments in large news organization.
  • Well informed on major issues.
  • Ability to work a flexible and varied schedule to include weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed to support business needs.

Compensation

  • The salary for this position is $100,000 - $120,000, commensurate with experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Employees are generally required to work in the office and/or out in the field 5 days per week.
