Work includes providing non-sworn law enforcement support services. Responsibilities focus on the successful operation of the bank of equipment necessary for an effective agency, including a police radio-based station, Florida Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center teletype terminal, telephone and radio recorder system, fire and burglar alarm system, and operation of all types of computer systems in a Public Safety Communications Center.

Essential Duties

Job FunctionOperation of police radio base station; University net pager radio, telephone recording system, microfilm viewer, intrusion alarms, building fire alarm terminal, and coordinating information with surrounding police agencies. Implementation and performance of all special and emergency procedures. Coordination of all units responding to emergencies. Monitors all alarm systems and notifies personnel upon activation.Percentage Of TimeJob FunctionOperates the National Crime Information Center/Florida Crime Information Center terminals. Operates a computer terminal to verify driver's license, personal background, criminal history, and vehicle tag and registration.Percentage Of TimeJob FunctionProvides support to law enforcement authorities conducting criminal and/or confidential investigations by coordinating and disseminating information relevant to law enforcement operations. Receives and evaluates calls from the public requesting police assistance for emergency and non-emergency calls for service.Percentage Of TimeJob FunctionActs as a receptionist for the Police Department. Marginal FunctionsPerformance of all administrative procedures and paperwork required for the successful operation of the Communications Center and the above satisfactory coordination of the departmental field activity via radio, moving 40 lb. boxes of computer, etc.Required QualificationsA high school diploma and one year of experience directly related to the job functions. Directly related college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Proficiency in typing and State certification on the NCIC/FCIC computer system are required.Faculty Position Required QualificationsN/ADepartmental RequirementsMust possess a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may be substituted at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Proficiency in typing and State Certification on the NCIC/FCIC Computer system required. Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation & grammar usage. Applicant must relate to the public, alphabetize, file, and communicate verbally in writing. Must work in a confidential environment due to the sensitivity of information within the department. Must possess the ability to follow written and oral instructions. Must speak clearly, interpret questions, and answer the questions properly. Applicant must use a computer and can walk, stoop, bend, reach, and lift or otherwise move approximately 40 lb. boxes of computer paper. Must have 20/20 vision with corrective lenses, have all limbs, and be able to hear, walk, and run if an emergency situation arises, such as an irate and/or violent person with a gun that poses a life-threatening situation to the PCO and/or anyone within the department.Statement(s) of Understanding DefinitionThis position requires a level II background check, which includes fingerprinting. In conjunction with the University's policy, this position may also require a credit check.
