Description

The Sr. Industrial Designer is responsible for the creation, and execution of assigned industrial design activities for both the existing and emerging Protective and Sports Medicine product categories. Successfully completes designated design tasks for new product projects from the design ideation phase through to the concept hand off phase and will collaborate and works closely with the assigned Product Developer through to the final product commercialization phase. Leads specific development tasks as assigned for these product categories from the design concept hand off phase through to the final product commercialization phase. Completes all required design functions in accordance with the product design objectives and within the published company design and development timelines, projected product costing and tooling spending targets. Works as a member of a cooperative and collaborative team based working environment. Provides advice and guidance on line concepts, manufacturability, cost and supplier capabilities during the design conceptualization phase.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Responsible for the implementation and coordination of new product ideation, design, merchandising as well as, manufacturing integration from the seasonal ideation start through to the bulk production sign off.Work with the assigned designer(s) and developer(s) or by self through-out the commercialization process and to collaborate with said individual(s) through-out the manufacturing integration process as required.May assist on the seasonal sign off on specific sales samples and bulk production runs.Responsible for the creation, timely maintenance and over site of all required industrial design documentation as specified by the VP's and SVP's.Responsible for the creation and timely maintenance of all required development documentation on assigned development projects as specified by the VP's and SVP's.Responsible to collaborate in the review all tooling.Responsible as assigned to lead and/or assist in the research and sourcing of new innovative technologies and suppliers. Should seamlessly provide, Product Developers and purchasing, planning and logistics staff with any found recommendations as they relate to improved product aesthetics, performance, costing, enhanced quality, increased process efficiency and improved delivery capability.Responsible to identify potential resource/priority conflicts/problems and escalate them to the PLMs or SVP's for resolution with all internal and external teammates.Responsible to assist the assigned developer(s) as requested with the complete transition of finalized product specification packages, mechanical drawings and prototypes to the nominated contractors for sales samples and bulk production in accordance to the company timeline and objectives.Responsible to provide assist the product team in the gathering of seasonal product insights and competitive product advantages to the sales and marketing teams as requested for sales and marketing collateral and communications development.Responsible to provide development timeline status and task assignments through various project management delivery systems.Responsible to use and test products regularly and work closely with the athletic community.Responsible to participate and assist with key meetings, trade shows and events.POSITION SPECIFICS:

This is a full-time positionTypical work hours and days are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.This position is expected to travel up to 20%.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as your relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.The salary range for this role in Fountain Valley, CA is $95,000-$130,000In addition, you may be eligible for additional compensation, such as a bonus. Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design and/or Mechanical Engineer and/or a Master degree in same with a Bachelor Degree of Arts in Product, Design, and Product Development and/or Textile Design and Development.7+ years of product specific industrial design innovations experience and/or training in the following areas of consumer products: Sporting Goods Equipment & Accessories, Protective Equipment & Accessories, textile development, injection/blow molded plastic, fitness monitoring equipment, and/or fitness equipment.Understanding of sub-component supply chain management, project management and product development in an ISO compliment company(s) in sporting goods, outdoor recreation market and/or related industries is desired.Comprehensive understanding of industrial design combined with the creative traits and communication skills required to ideate and design in this environment. Experience with ideation processes and systems, sketching and idea presentation techniques, and innovative manufacturing processes, product development, costing and sourcing are beneficial. Leadership, collaboration and consensus building skills are mandatory.Thorough knowledge of MS office tools and Adobe creative suite, Solid-works, AutoCAD, Autodesk and/or other product modeling software are required. 3D software knowledge a plus.Understanding of material science, industrial design and manufacturing are desired. Must be able to use the product in the field and provide critical feedback on product function.Willing to travel within the contiguous United States of America (USA), as well as, abroad to work with suppliers, contractors, and others. Attend relevant offsite events as required to complete her/his job responsibilities.
