Norton Professional Books (NPB), an imprint of W. W. Norton focusing on mental health titles for clinicians and general readers, is looking for an entry-level Marketing and Publicity Assistant. A background and/or interest in clinical psychology is preferred.

This position reports to the Associate Director of NPB and works closely with a Marketing Manager, acquisitions editors, authors, and partner organizations. The assistant spearheads a variety marketing and publicity initiatives, including media outreach, promotional campaign management, and social media marketing.

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Managing our email marketing campaigns (design and deployment)
  • Writing press materials, managing press mailings, and developing relationships with a variety of media outlets
  • Coordinating print (fliers, postcards, etc.) and digital advertisements, including concept, copy, and design. The assistant works with freelance designers on larger projects, and uses platforms like Canva to design in-house content
  • Creating social media posts and managing accounts on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube.
  • Managing title metadata content on the Norton website/retail outlets (title information updates, related links, content modules, etc.)
  • Departmental budget updates (tracking and submitting invoices; spreadsheet updates)
  • Tracking author events and conducting event host outreach
  • Managing departmental status reports and calendars
  • Occasionally representing NPB at conferences and author events (some travel may be required).

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe InDesign, and Canva
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube.
  • Candidate should have an interest in and commitment to professional and academic book publishing.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of copyediting and standard proofreading marks helpful.
  • Must be able to anticipate needs and deliver timely, relevant solutions and actions.
  • Must be able to develop rapport and relationships with all levels of employees.
  • Must be seen as knowledgeable and capable of handling sensitive, critical information.
  • Must be proactive, flexible and adaptive in a rapidly changing environment and adjust with a "can-do" attitude.
  • Must be self-directed and independent.
  • Must have good time management skills, be organized, and be capable of multi-tasking across departments, activities, and projects.
  • Must be detail-oriented, making sure that all aspects of their daily activities are handled with accuracy and minimal mistakes.
  • Must have a demonstrated interest in the challenges and opportunities of electronic media as it applies to education and/or learning.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Employment eligibility to work with W. W. Norton & Company in the US is required.

  • Annual compensation for this position is $48,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location and like considerations. Generous paid time off, paid holidays, and summer Friday afternoons beginning in July
