W. W. Norton & Company is seeking a full-time Marketing Manager. Reporting to the Director, Paperbacks and Academic Marketing Strategy, the Marketing Manager will work across the Norton Trade and Liveright imprints to identify and capitalize on opportunities to promote our backlist. This will include collaborating with title marketers to provide continued support for hardcovers several months after publication, as well as creating and executing paperback and deeper backlist campaigns that help books reach new readers, and new heights. The ideal candidate will be both curious and creative and able to see bold ideas through to fruition.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create and execute plans for ongoing promotion of breakout frontlist tiles across a variety of genres including, nonfiction, fiction, cookbooks, and poetry titles.
  • Work closely with Norton’s paperback group to identify titles with significant sales potential and develop inventive, experimental marketing campaigns that expand the books’ audience.
  • Research and investigate original methods for reaching readers via new book club programs, social media initiatives, advertising, and more.
  • Communicate with sales, other trade title marketers, publicists, editors, authors, agents, and other key stakeholders.
  • Work with publicity colleagues to identify appropriate authors for events. Assist with conceptualizing author outreach and tours.
  • Coordinate with academic marketing to align goals for select titles.
  • Collaborate with the sales team on retailer-specific campaigns and promotions.
  • Present marketing plans at trade sales conferences.
  • Work with the Director, Paperbacks and Academic Marketing Strategy to evaluate and analyze the effectiveness of campaigns.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in book marketing or sales, with a strong understanding of the book publishing landscape.
  • Strong grasp of key marketing concepts and tools including email marketing, social media marketing, video, and search.
  • Proclivity to both think outside of the box and ability to put those ideas into practice is essential.
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a larger team while working independently.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and copywriting skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Basic design skills are a plus.

Compensation and Benefits*

Currently available benefits include:

  • Annual compensation for this position is between $65,000-70,000. All salaries and salary ranges posted by Norton may vary depending on experience, skills, location, and like considerations.
