Summary The Head of Digital Content will strategize, create, and evaluate exciting and innovative digital, video and social media content that helps the National Gallery reflect and attract the United States, and become the nation’s primary resource for art and creativity. The Head of Content will lead a team of creative and data-informed content, video, and audio and social producers, who focus on creating, adapting, and promoting content across our digital platforms and products. Responsibilities The Head of Digital Content will: Have overall ownership of digital content strategy for the National Gallery of Art, delivering a relevant and impactful national digital and social content offer that helps achieve the Gallery’s mission. Provide leadership and direction to content specialists leading and managing day-to-day content operations for our websites, mobile applications, and other digital products, as well as cross-platform video creation (including for in-Gallery products and social media). Create and publish compelling, engaging, and accurate digital content with content creators and subject matter experts (curators, conservators, interpreters, editors, educators etc.) across the National Gallery and beyond. Lead the creation and execution of the National Gallery’s social media strategy, including social content strategy, multi-channel projects, integrations with wider curatorial, marketing and communication projects and campaigns, as well as self-directed projects completed with internal or external subject matter experts, content creators and influencers. Lead adoption and delivery of best practices around digital content design, web content operations, and UX-focused writing, including being responsible for all content operations on nga.gov. Develop and implement new website content initiatives, make strategic recommendations, and develop appropriate plans, specifications, and metrics for success for nga.gov in consultation with the Head of Digital Product and Experience. Implement new processes and protocols for website user administration, content workflows, and website enhancements. Lead the implementation of the Gallery’s digital content strategy, including running workshops, creating action plans, and turning strategic recommendations into practical delivery. Serve as team manager/project director for digital content projects, working with and scheduling other content creators, designers, external contractors, writers, copywriters, and production teams. Develop and implement digital content project schedules, track project status, and manage team deliverables, overseeing digital content production efforts from conception through completion. Qualifications Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the NF-1084-15. For this position, candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the NF-14 level in the Federal service, planning, creating, and evaluating public-facing digital content for a major organization or institution that helps grow, engage and retain target audiences, both onsite and online. Mastery knowledge of and demonstrated experience in digital project management and digital content creation for media organizations, for nonprofits, within the visual arts, museums, or cultural organizations. Mastery knowledge of and demonstrated experience creating video and audio content strategy and execution for media organizations, for nonprofits, within the visual arts, museums, or cultural organizations. Mastery knowledge of and demonstrated experience in website content development, content management systems (e.g. Drupal), some knowledge of HTML/CSS. Mastery knowledge and demonstrated experience managing social media projects, including strategy, content and partnerships for media organizations, for nonprofits, within the visual arts, museums, or cultural organizations. Extensive writing and communication experience, including leading and participation on cross-functional teams dedicated to improving user experiences through writing, information architecture and content design. Leadership skills and experience, with an ability to recruit, inspire and develop a team of specialists "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.
