The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's mission is to be the most essential and engaging source of news and information for the people of Atlanta, of Georgia and the South. To achieve that mission, we are transforming ourselves from a storied daily newspaper into a modern media company.

The AJC seeks a video producer to join our team of journalists and storytellers to deliver work across diverse creative platforms. This producer will be responsible for executing stories in a fast-paced environment, responding to breaking news, and telling thoughtful stories that drive the narrative forward. A successful candidate demonstrates a strong background in pitching, reporting, writing, shooting and video editing.

The ideal candidate is a voracious consumer of news and digital content in its many forms. This producer has strong editorial judgment and can deliver well-written digital scripts that represent the AJC's evolving voice and brand. This candidate must have an obsession with quality, pay close attention to detail, and must be comfortable handling multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment. Expert technical skills in shooting with digital cine cameras and editing software is required.

This position is based in Atlanta, GA and may require some travel.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Produce daily and weekly quick-turn news and documentary-style video, with the opportunity for longer-lead projects.
  • Experiment with a variety of storytelling executions, with a creative eye that elevates traditional editing styles.
  • Own pre-production, production and post-production processes, coordinating with teams and subjects at every step of video from ideation to publish.
  • Skilled in shooting and editing to optimize approach based on topics and platforms
  • Follow workflows and meet production schedules.
  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced news environment while meeting aggressive deadlines
  • Write scripts, pitches, and manage on-camera talent and bookings.
  • Stay glued to the news and information cycle and pitch ideas that are in lockstep with AJC's larger goals and initiatives.


Qualifications:

  • Expertise in Adobe Premiere editing software. Adobe After Effects, a plus.
  • A portfolio of work showing editorial judgment, technical skills and creativity.
  • Experience creating video for digital platforms, social media, or news organizations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of collaboration with team members.
  • A passion and excitement for news, social and digital content.
  • An ability to remain flexible in changing environments.
  • Proven ability to work closely with standards, licensing and legal groups to ensure all projects meet AJC editorial guidelines and practices.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule as dictated by the news cycle or business needs.


Experience level:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • With a BA/BS, must have 4+ years of combined experience producing/shooting video. With a Master's degree have at least 2 years of experience or Ph.D with at least 1 year of experience or a minimum of 8 years of experience in digital video without a degree.


USD 64,200.00 - 96,400.00 per year

Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $64,200.00 - $96,400.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.
