position to its' dynamic team! As a Telecommunications Officer, you will be under direct supervision of the Telecommunications Supervisor, receives and dispatches requests for police, fire, ambulance, and animal control emergency and non-emergency services, while modeling our core values of Murphy

Pay Plan This opportunity is exempt and budgeted on Pay Grade #28.The pay plan range below is shown to represent opportunities for growth and development within this opportunity. We are seeking to hire between the Min to Mid range of the pay grade shown dependent upon qualifications.

Operates a multi-line communication systemAnswer phones and directs callers to the appropriate city employeeMonitors and broadcasts on communication radio equipmentDispatches police, fire and emergency medical units and animal control as well as other city departments, such as public works and parks and recreation, as neededOperates various telecommunication, multi-channel radio equipment, and Enhanced 911 systemAssigns police, fire, and ambulance support elements to routine/emergency calls for serviceRecords all activities and locations of police units and animal control unitsUses computer terminals to make entries and inquiries and interprets the responses from various automated databasesProvides Emergency Medical Pre & Post Arrival InstructionsRetrieves Driver's License and Vehicle Registration data from computer systemChecks for outstanding warrants, stolen vehicles and articlesEnters and clears warrants and stolen articles from department to TCIC/NCIC computerOperates video recording, closed circuit television, and tape logging equipmentCommunicates with the hearing and speech impaired by a teletype systemScreens and forwards telephone calls for the police, fire department, and animal control departmentsIs aware of and able to review the city's crime analysis software, such as RaidsOn Line and review crime trends as indicated with their respective shifts regularlyAble to operate the city-wide locking control system, setting opening and closings according to scheduled eventsDevelops own knowledge, skills and abilities to enhance and ensure continued success and meets all mandated training requirements as specified by TCOLE for the maintenance of a licensed telecommunicatorOperates computers, telephones, radios, recorders, and other technical equipmentAdheres to personnel safety, departmental policies and procedures, and Administrative OrdersPerforms other related duties as assignedTypical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Graduate or General Education Diploma (GED)Licensed Telecommunicator or able to obtain license within specified period designated by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)Valid Texas Class C Driver's License - driving record must be in compliance with City policyPREFERRED QUALIFICATION

Two (2) years of municipal Police, Fire, and 911 enhanced dispatching experienceCurrent Telecommunications License as issued by TCOLECertified Emergency Medical DispatchSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Retirement benefits provided through the Texas Municipal Retirement System. Mandatory contributions via payroll deduction - employee contributes 7% and the City matches 2 - 1.Term Life Insurance plan of $20,000 paid for by the City of Murphy. Supplemental coverage is available for purchase by the employee.Medical/Dental/Vision insurance. City pays the full premium for employees and provides a 50% premium contribution for qualified dependents. PPO plan with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Dental plan with Ameritas and Vision plan with VSP. Benefits are deducted pre-tax, see table below for rates.Telemedicine, including a behavioral health component, fully funded by the City of MurphyFlexible Spending Health and Dependent Care accounts available for employee contribution.Long-term disability insurance paid by the City of Murphy.Identity Protection plan available through My ID Care.Longevity pay: All full-time employees receive $4.00 per month for each year of service beginning the month following the first full year of service.Employee Assistance Program provided free to employees and family members.Vacation: Two weeks (10 days) annually through the first five years, three weeks (15 days) annually from 5 years to 10 years, and four weeks (20 days) annually for 10 years of service and beyond. Time accrues incrementally each pay period.Sick time: Two weeks (10 days) annually - accrued incrementally each pay period.
