Description
Assists customers of all ages at our public service desks with information and reference questions; assists and instructs customers with their use of library computers, personal electronic devices, and other technologies; prepares displays and demonstrates library resources; helps plan, prepare, and execute programming for adults. Assists and instructs customers with their use of maker spaces and creatives tools in The Studio.
Demonstrates enthusiasm and curiosity about the changing world of public libraries; is customer focused and forward thinking; knowledgeable about popular books, movies and current technology and is eager to assist library customers.
The schedule is as follows.
Tuesday: 5-9 pm
Wednesday: 9 am to 1 pm
Thursday: 1-5 pm
Friday: 2-6 pm
Saturday: 11 am to 3 pm
Examples of Duties
Assist and advise customers with their use of library materials, including books, movies, music, media, and electronic resourcesAssist customers in their use of library and personal technology and equipment; perform basic troubleshooting with hardware, software, and webpagesAnswer informational and basic reference questions for customers of all agesHelp to maintain staff and public webpagesAssist with supervision of library volunteersParticipate in departmental and library-wide training and activities, including technology trainingMonitor and address customer behavior to ensure a safe and welcoming environmentProvide support in the planning, preparation, and execution of relevant and engaging programs for adultsRequirements

Bachelor's degree or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilitiesCustomer service experience in a public library will be preferredKnowledge of Spanish is helpful
The Champaign Public Library offers a comprehensive benefit package to regular full- and part-time employees that includes paid sick leave, vacation, and nine paid holidays each year.
Employees working 29 hours or less are not eligible for health insurance.
Other benefits include health and life insurance, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension plan, and access to a variety of other programs, such as dental and vision insurance, Employee Assistance Program, and deferred compensation plans.
