Apply today and know that you will be taking the first step towards a long-term career in our library system.About the PositionIn this role you will be responsible for:+ Develop and implement standards of service that ensure the prompt and efficient resolution of each inquiry, delivered with the utmost respect and courtesy.+ Promote understanding and use of the library, its technology, and resources by presenting individual and group training programs.+ Assist customers by locating answers to questions, including Interlibrary Loan services and referrals to agencies outside the library.+ Keep abreast of developments, new trends, and innovations in libraries.+ Aid at service desks and to other sections as needed.+ Represent Sarasota County and the library/library interests to library users and within the community.+ Prepare reviews, press releases, bibliographies, and other promotional displays.+ Analyze and identify service population needs, developing and directing plans to meet those needs.+ Network with other agencies to provide and obtain materials and services.+ Participate in setting unit, library, and system goals, contributing to decision making and the evaluation of progress.Work Hours:A typical schedule will be 40 hours/week, scheduled within the operating hours below. ( Occasional programs or outreach events may take place outside of normal operating hours.)+ Monday, Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.+ Tuesday, Thursday: 8:30 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.+ Friday and Saturday: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.+ Currently closed on Sundays (subject to change).About YouMinimum Qualifications:+ Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS) from a college/university accredited by the American Library Association.+ -OR- Bachelor's Degree and enrolled in an MLS/MLIS program with the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within twelve (12) months from date of hire.+ Valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire.Preferred Qualifications:+ Prior work experience in a reference, programming, or technology related position in a public library.+ Spanish language skills.Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.
