Position Title: Marketing Technologist

Hours: Full-time, mostly remote (in-office for meetings)

Supervisor: Marketing and Communications Director

Classification: Non-exempt, Hourly

SUMMARY

The Marketing Technologist will provide technical support to the development and marketing department, assisting in powering our marketing strategies through technology – providing ongoing support, analysis, implementation and improvement of our technology stack and ensuring we are using technology and automation to its utmost in powering our mission.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

This position requires a very tech-savvy, analytic, data-driven, detail-oriented person who handles frustration well and enjoys finding, implementing, and working through technological solutions. We all know technology isn’t perfect, but this person will help usher our team through those imperfections—both chipping in personally and training others as needed. This position requires internal drive and self-management in a primarily remote position, the ability to consistently monitor and manage routine, ongoing tasks as well as projects within mutually agreed upon timelines, a continual focus on efficiency, and the hunger for ongoing learning and improvement. Though this is not a customer-facing position, this person must have an internal customer service mindset and work well with others as they will work within an internal team and communicate with external developers.

An animal care facility can be an emotionally challenging, high-stress, rapidly changing, and high-demand environment. Feelings of grief and loss, secondary trauma, and compassion fatigue are not uncommon. As such, working in a management/leadership role at HSHV requires a high emotional IQ including adaptability, flexibility, and tolerance for calculated risk, ambiguity, and change; self-awareness; empathy for animals and people; perspective taking; assertive communication and conflict resolution skills; stress management skills, emotional regulation and resilience; and an overall positive outlook.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Learn and be the expert on HSHV’s current technology stack. Serve as internal IT support or project manager for our fundraising systems (currently Virtuous, FundraiseUp, RaiseDonors, Qgiv, WordPress with plugins), funneling to and working with external support as needed, and communicating best practices to the team.Act as a nonprofit “Growth Hacker.” Together with Marketing and Communications Director, implement digital strategies to drive people to HSHV, continually increase their engagement with us, and begin their donor journey. Use current tech stack (e.g., digital advertising, automations with Zapier and Virtuous) and suggest and implement new ones for the best customer experience and most efficient use of our resources.Help make the most of the data we collect – keeping it private and healthy by working with Data Entry Assistants and communicating best practices to the team.Serve as website administrator. Implement routine website changes as requested by staff, and provide technical assistance for website administration (multiple sites). Devise and implement ongoing improvements. Occasionally/as needed, work with contracted developers for enhancements, improvements and redesigns.Work with team to ensure effective email campaigns. Advise on how to keep our email list healthy, monitor spam numbers, and A/B testing; analysis and future improvement.Keep a pulse on key digital marketing analytics for HSHV (email, website, social media, etc.). Advise on systems that will meet HSHV’s short-term and long-term needs, then implement.Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing this job, you will be primarily and frequently be sitting or standing before a computer. You will be required to continually use your hands and arms to operate office equipment, and occasionally you may need to stoop, bend, or reach for materials necessary for your job. You will continually be using your vision, and must have visual acuity. Though you will mainly be in an office setting with moderate noise levels, when in the HSHV office, you will be exposed to kennel/shelter setting as well. You will be exposed to disinfectant solutions used in cleaning. You will be consistently exposed to animals and animal allergens. You may also be subject to potential danger including parasites and infectious diseases, animal bites and scratches.
