Super Evil Megacorp is growing its design team and discipline and we're looking for a Design Director to help lead and inspire a growing design team, as well as support existing and new projects within the studio. This role will have an opportunity to help pioneer new experiences for players across ambitious games along with being a key part in helping us build a world class remote design organization.

Responsibilities

  • Connect vision with execution. Help both hone and refine the game vision as well as figure out how to bring that vision to life.
  • Drive aligning teams around cohesive player journeys and own driving key features within that journey
  • Identify and push the "big questions" game game design to resolution and implementation
  • Manage and support designers and help them develop their skills and careers identifying skill gaps within the team, and lead recruiting of designers
  • Coordinate onboarding, training, and continued knowledge sharing & learning for the design team
  • Help navigate complex design problems and help people get unstuck
  • Drive overall execution velocity and quality of the design team

Requirements:

  • Aptitude and attitude towards taking responsibility for broad problems and challenges. Self-motivated to figure out what needs to happen and get it done.
  • Strong sense of design as well as product. This is beyond just what makes a game fun to play, but understanding of what genres & business models can succeed in the market today and in the upcoming years.
  • Ability to balance aspiration with practical constraints of technology, production timeline, talent. Know when to take risks+innovate and when not to.
  • Crystal clear communication skills. Capacity to discuss difficult topics with tact and respect.
  • Comfortable giving and receiving constructive criticism
  • One or two areas of deep game design expertise as individual contributor (e.g., technical design, melee/ranged combat, systems design , etc)
  • Shipped multiple large titles in a design or management role, having shipped at least one successful AAA title
  • 8+ years total game development experience in design capacity
  • 3+ years experience in a management/leadership capacity

Bonuses but not required:

  • Programming or gameplay scripting experience
  • Experience with open world and action games
  • Experience working with publishers

The base annual salary range for this position in the United States is $100,000 - $190,000. The base salary is just one part of the overall compensation package. SEMC also offers a package of benefits, including, healthcare coverage, unlimited PTO, a remote work environment, flex working schedule, parental leave support, 100% 401k match on the first 3% of your contribution, and paid local hangout meals and events. All full time roles are also eligible for annual bonuses and equity.

This base pay range is for the United States only and does not apply to international locations. The range for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
