Consider working as a part-time Library Assistant I. This is an introductory classification where individuals will perform the more defined customer service and processing functions, and the higher-level tasks in a training capacity.Vital duties include:

Operate the library circulation desk; charge and discharge books, periodicals and other library materials; register new patrons, explain library rules and procedures and issue library cardsShelve books, periodicals, and other library materialsAssist professional staff with designated library programs, displays, and community outreach/promotionsSearch for and locate books, reference and other materials within and outside the County's Library System upon patron requests; send books to other branch librariesProvide excellent customer service to customers & the general publicThis position is crafted for individuals who have graduated from high school and have at least one year of clerical work experience which includes customer service activities. No college degree is required and if you have the knowledge of general functions of library service, that's a plus!

Compensation:

Position includes salary adjustments based on merit within the classification of employment. On each salary anniversary date, until an employee reaches the maximum salary step for the employee's salary range, salary and shall be advanced to the next higher step of the employee's salary range unless the employee's service is not satisfactory.

The Library Assistant I is an entry level position where a variety of responsibilities will focus around customer service and duties which may include but not limited to assisting the public by providing information, shelving books and library material, assisting in the maintenance of computerized records and files and fee collections.
