Provide patron assistance at the Information Desk and give support as needed to the Adult Services Department. Ensures that all requests for information made by library patrons are promptly and accurately responded to by directly providing the information that was requested or directing the patron to the appropriate location in the library or outside of the library where the information can be found.Essential Job Functions

Assists patrons at the Information Desk with a variety of informational and technical needs, including copying/scanning/faxing, using computers, and operating e-readers.Develops and maintains library collections by selecting and removing materials as assigned.Performs reader's advisory and ready reference.Assists patrons with the use of computers and other technology.Assists with projects relating to collection development.Provides direction and guidance to library volunteers.Maintains the confidentiality of library records.May assist with library programs, preparation of promotional materials and other projects/activities as needed.Performs other duties as required.Requirements of Work

High school diploma or GED plus two years of coursework in library studies; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability, and skills.

Ability to understand and perform routine library procedures.Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively with staff and public and maintain effective public relations.Ability to operate library equipment properly.Skill in

Requires keyboarding, filing, and office programming ability, copy machine, fax machine, telephone, audio-visual equipment, Microsoft Office Suite and LinkCat.Necessary Special Requirements

Some evening and weekend hours required.Willingness to maintain skills in above-mentioned areas through active participation in appropriate library skills learning experiences.Proficiency in Spanish desired.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work is performed mostly in a Library setting; hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or to stand for prolonged periods of time.The employee is frequently exposed to dust, and occasionally to dim or bright lighting, heat, cold, odors, noise, vibrations, wetness/humidity, violence, and disease.The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and pushing and pulling objects on wheels weighing 60-80 pounds.

INCOME CONTINUATION INS - State FundThis benefit provides up to 75% of your average earnings if you become disabled. The City provides coverage up to $120,000 at the 180-day elimination period. Employees can buy down to a shorter elimination period at their expense. Eligibility begins the 1st of the following month.

VISION INSURANCE

Available for the employee to purchase at their own expense. Coverage begins the 1st of the month following date of hire.

PET INSURANCE

RETIREMENT

Wisconsin Retirement System which requires a matching 6.9% employee contribution.

SICK LEAVE

Accumulation of one day per month. At retirement ability to convert sick balance up to 120 days into a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA).

PAID PARENTAL LEAVEEmployees who meet the eligibility criteria and have a qualifying event, shall receive 240 hours of paid parental leave and 80 hours of paid caregiver leave (prorated for part time). Both run concurrent with Family Medical Leave.
