ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Reports to the Manager of Creative Therapies. Plans, organizes and directs Art Therapy interventions as part of mental and physical health care treatment of youth to influence behavioral and psychological changes leading to restoration and improvement of emotional health across multiple agency locations in the Chicago area. Effectively utilizes verbal and written communication skills. Requires knowledge of trauma exposure, knowledge of the 5 S's of trauma: Safety, Self-Regulation/Soothing, Supportive, Strengths, Self-Care, and an understanding of and recognition of the signs of traumatic stress. Must be able to effectively use both verbal and physical intervention skills with individuals six (6) through twenty-one (21) years of age. Physical intervention skills require the ability to kneel and return to standing without assistance. Requires flexibility to adjust work schedule according to the needs of the program.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIESImplements art therapy programming, special events and other related activities as identified to support creative therapy services.Maintains involvement in departmental planning from a comprehensive as well as specific program planning perspective, participating in needs assessments, team meetings and department meetings, and communicating clinical progress to team members, caregivers, and family members as appropriate.Completes formal documentation as established by departmental procedureCurate interventions and programming to include using strategies that support healing, recovery, and that resist re-traumatizationMaintains membership in professional organizations and keeps current credentials in appropriate/relevant discipline and maintains professional organizational involvementEstablishes and maintains professional relationships with youth and responds to target behaviors with methods established by departmental and agency policiesUses active and reflective listening skills and affirmations to demonstrate respect and empathy, avoiding negative and derogatory labels that foster disrespectMaintain confidentiality of employees, volunteers, and program participants to provide a safe environmentAbility to work effectively with program participants and family members, employees and vendors in a culturally diverse environment to support healing and recoveryParticipates in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement activities as assignedOther duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in art therapy from an accredited universityATR/ATR-BC or eligible forLPC or LCPC strongly preferredKnowledge of childhood trauma and prior experience working in settings with youth and families that have been exposed to trauma or experiencing traumatic stress preferredKnowledge of youth development, adolescent issues, positive youth development/strengths-based approach preferredPersonal vehicle or access to vehicle and proof of insuranceValid Illinois/Indiana/Wisconsin Driver's licenseNo history of child abuse or neglectAbility to pass background and drug screenHighlighted benefits
