Who we are and what we do:About the Agency: The mission of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security is to serve, secure, and protect the people of Tennessee. The department is responsible for ensuring the safety and general welfare of the public through the operations of its six primary divisions: Administration, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Driver Services, Office of Homeland Security, Tennessee Highway Safety Office, and the Tennessee Advanced Communications Network (TACN). Headquartered in Nashville, the department maintains a presence statewide with approximately 2,300 employees working across the state.Job Overview:About the Position: The Safety Graphic Designer will generate ideas and create animated graphics for video, print, advertising, digital marketing, social media, and more, bringing projects to life! The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of current design software and the design process, from concept to final delivery. The Safety Graphic Designer will collaborate with multiple divisions within the department for projects and should be comfortable and capable of working on multiple projects at the same time. The candidate must have a strong understanding of both print and electronic media editing. This position reports to the Director of Communications. While this position may have the ability to utilize Alternative Workplace Solutions, the individual selected will need to be able to work on site at various locations as required up to five days per week. In addition, it may require statewide travel and/or after-hours work.Key Responsibilities:Specific responsibilities include:Work on a wide range of projects and media, using various software programs to visualize and develop innovative graphic designs that meet department goals.Ensure designs meet Departmental and State of Tennessee standards and branding.Work independently as well as cooperatively with the communications team to meet deadlines.Schedule project implementation based on workload, which may include simultaneous projects at times.Collaborate, brainstorm, and strategize with department leadership on a variety of materials that may include videos, printed material, presentations, internal communication, newsletters, and marketing content.Create concepts by hand or with software and execute original content by determining the ideal usage of color, text, font style, imagery, and layout.Manage the design and uploading process for all project materials.Minimum Qualifications:All applicants will be required to submit an electronic sample highlighting their recent work in graphic design.
